A lot of people tend to think it is easier to date people that go to same school as them. Same circle of friends, same campus, usually similar interests. Yes, that's really great and usually pretty easy, but it can also be very rewarding to date someone that doesn't go to the same school as you.
1. Since your time together is more limited, you tend to make the most of it.
Couples that see each other every day can get in a rut of doing the same thing over and over. It usually looks something like this:
" Netflix?"
"Netflix."
"Large pepperoni with extra cheese?"
"Duh."
I'm not saying that's a bad thing at all. But when you know you're only going to see this other person once this week, it's easier to make the most of your time and have fun going out or staying in.
2. You don't have to worry about sharing your friends.
OK, let me explain this one. You always want your significant other and your friends to get along. But if you two break up, being in the same friend group could get weird and awkward and your friends may feel like they have to pick sides. When you go to different schools, you won't run in the same circle of friends.
3. On the other hand, more friends!
Since you're not running in the same circle of friends, you'll make a ton of new ones when you date someone from another school. And if you break up, there won't be any awkward tension. If you want to continue seeing those friends, you can do it on your own time without making it weird.
4. It helps you remember you're an individual.
When you're with someone all the time, it's easy to become a single unit. "We only like rom-com movies,." or "We have to wash our hair tonight."
When you go to another school and don't see your significant other all the time, it makes it easier to remember, "I am me and you are you. We are not the same person."
5. You get to experience what another campus has to offer (without paying the tuition and fees).
So, obviously you won't get to take advantage of the classes, (one tuition payment is enough, thank you very much) but you do get to experience the culture and student life other places. Some schools are really into sports, others are really into the fine arts, and some have free Chik-fil-A in their dining meal plan. If you date someone from another school, you're able to open yourself up to experiences that your campus may not be able to offer.
So, if you're looking for a significant other and none of the guys or girls on your campus are working out, try hitting up some old high school friends to set you up or good ol' Tinder and meet some people from other schools.
