The other day I was driving with my friend and we got lost. Unfortunately, both of our phones were dead. We had no map, and no idea where we were. We eventually found our way by asking someone for directions. In this particular situation I would have normally used my ‘Google maps app.' I’ve become so dependent on using the apps on my phone, that I consider it second nature. Now I know a popular topic of debate right now is how young adults rely on their phones too much and we all need to learn how to detach ourselves from technology. While I do agree with this statement, I also believe that smartphones are an incredible technological innovation that can help improve our daily lives. For example, here are 5 apps that I think are beneficial for our day-to-day activities.
1. Lumosity
This app is centered on improving your memory. It consists of easy cognitive games. I love playing these fast memory games when I have a few minutes to spare.
Benefit: Improves memory
2. CNN mobile app
I know there a lot of news apps out there, but CNN happens to be one of my favorites. I would suggest downloading any news app, and turn on its notifications. News apps are a great way to get short news updates throughout your busy day.
Benefit: Keeps you informed
3. Postmates
Have you ever had the vision of having breakfast brought to you in bed? Postmates is the closest app to making that come true. This app makes ordering food to-go so easy. Plus, if you share your promo code with your friends you get great discounts.
Benefit: Brings you food
4. Yelp
I used to think that looking up a restaurant before I went to it was a lot of effort. But I have been in the situation of walking to five different restaurants in one night to hear the words “It’s a forty minute wait” too often. So, I finally got the Yelp app. This app only takes about 2 minutes to find a great restaurant and can save you hours of frustration and stress.
Benefit: Saves you time
5. Pacer
If you’ve ever wanted a Fitbit, but have yet to buy one, then this app if for you. Pacer is a free app that tracks your steps, your calories, and how many miles you walk in a day. The great thing about this app is that it automatically starts tracking your steps without you having to activate it. I love the surprise of finding out I’ve walked a mile just by going to class.
Benefit: Keeps you on track of your fitness.
If you just upgraded your iPhone to the 64 GB storage plan and don’t know what to do with all that room, I just suggest downloading these beneficial apps. While there are many apps out there that waste your time, I believe there are a lot of apps that can help improve your daily life.
