5 Alternative Ways To Spend Spring Break

For when you can't (or don't want to) be on the beach in Cancun.

Lets Go Vacation Rentals

For most college students, spring break is basically an excuse to get together with all your best friends and take a weeklong beach vacation/party. However, for those of us who can’t make it to the beaches of Florida or Cancun, there are still plenty of other awesome ways to spend your week of mid-semester freedom.

1. Go on a mission trip

Even though going on a mission trip definitely wouldn’t be a relaxing way to spend your spring break and you'll probably be exhausted by the end of the week, it would still be an awesome experience. Besides, it would be much more rewarding than sitting at home feeling sorry for yourself because you can't be on the beach.

2. Go on a road trip.

With the right people and a good plan, a road trip could be the perfect way to spend your spring break. Pick a few places to visit, grab some snacks and hit the road for the week.

3. Visit a new city

If you’re looking for a change of scenery that’s still relatively close to home, pick a new city to visit that’s close by. Whether you want to visit a museum, try a new restaurant or just walk around, visiting a new place can make your spring break exciting, even if you’re only travelling an hour or two from home.

4. Spend time getting to know your home state

Sometimes, there's no place like home. Whether you live on the East Coast, the West Coast or anywhere in between, chances are there are at least a few cool things that you’ve never experienced right in your own backyard. Take advantage of your week off to try something new in your hometown or state.

5. Visit a national or state park

Whether it’s Yosemite in California or Acadia in Maine, the U.S. has plenty of beautiful national parks that make it almost impossible to find an excuse to stay inside all break and watch Netflix. So take advantage of them and get outside to explore. If you’re not close enough to a national park, there are plenty of state parks with gorgeous hiking, too!

Even if you won’t be freshly tanned from hanging out on the beach in Cancun with every other college student in the United States, if you’re creative and do your research, you can still make the most of your time off. Speaking from personal experience, spring breaks spent exploring your home state, volunteering with a mission trip or road tripping with your friends will create great experiences and give you awesome stories to rival the ones your friends come back from the beach with.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
