The Zodiac Killer
Beginning with one of the most famous American serial killers. He was active during the 1960’s and the 1970’s. His killings took place in the areas of Northern California and usually targeted couples. The zodiac has five confirmed killings, two injuries, 37 claimed killings, but the police assume that the number is probably 20-28. The only contact the killer had with law officials was through taunting and cryptic letters. To this day, the identity of the Zodiac killer is unknown and the case remains open.
Moses Sithole
“The ABC Killer” was active for one year from 1994-1995 in the South African area. He also was known as the “South African Ted Bundy”. He would prey on unemployed women, pretending to be a businessman with job opportunities for the women. He would lure them to isolated areas where he would proceed to rape, torture, and kill them. Sithole is believed to have over 38 victims. He was sentenced to 2410 years in prison and will have the opportunity of parole after 930 years.
Ronald Domonique
“Bayou Stranger” was active from the years of 1997 -2006. Domonique would meet men in local gay bars and target the ones he suspected were looking for prostitutes. He would lure them away and rape them. The murder would occur out of Domonique’s fear of sexual assault charges. Over the course of a decade, Domonique raped and killed 23 men. In 1992, Domonique attempted to run for U.S. president as an independent candidate, but dropped out for unknown reasons. He was sentenced to life in prison.
Luis Alfredo Garavito Cubillos
“La Bestia” (The Beast) Cubillos was a Colombian rapist and serial killer active in the 1990’s. He would lure young street children to isolated areaswith the promise of food and gifts. Cubillos would then molest, rape, cut throats, and dismember their bodies. He claimed the lives of 140 children in a span of five years, but is suspected of killing over 300 children. He was sentenced to 1,853 and 9 days, but Colombian law has a maximum of 30 years. Due to his cooperation with finding the bodies, his sentenced was reduced to 22 years and he may get released earlier for good behavior!
Richard Trenton Chase
“The Vampire of Sacramento” was a serial killer and is considered one of the most gruesome on this list. One of his crimes was the brutal shooting of a pregnant woman. After he shot her, he proceeded to have sex with her corpse and then bathed in her blood. His worst crime is the murder of a 22-month old boy and then he cannibalized the boy’s internal organs. He claimed seven victims in the span of a month. He was sentenced to death by gas chamber, but died suicide from drug overdose.
