St. Louis Catholic High School (aka St. Louis Catholic, St. Louis, SLCHS, SLC, the Lou, or whatever other nicknames exist now) gives all Saints an interesting, educational experience. As an alumni, I find myself looking back at my four year experience there, and there are some things that at least most of us can agree on:

1. Piecing together the puzzle that was your schedule was difficult, but you loved the block schedule once you figured it out.

2. Most of your classmates went to OLQH, ICCS, EDS, St. Margaret, or Sacred Heart for middle school (and probably elementary school too).

3. You wished that all of your friends had the same lunch hour as you.

4. Getting to school on time was a must as you needed to be able to exempt some finals.

5. Having to walk in the hallway between the English department and library made you feel like you were in a herd of cattle.

6. You chatted in the cafeteria and ate lunch in the commons.

7. Four minutes in between classes was sometimes enough time to use the restroom, sometimes not.

8. You wore the wrong outfit in PE.

9. You tried to get away with chewing gum and often asked others if they had gum.

10. You anticipated T-shirt day, but then forgot about it and wore your uniform instead.

11. You either hoped that a recent achievement of yours would be recognized or for your name to not be called to the office during announcements.

12. You couldn't wait for break, so you could finally eat your snack.

13. Ms. Dee knew when you were out of dress code and/or didn't have your ID.

14. You felt awkward passing by couples flirting with each other right against the chapel.

15. To avoid another long losing streak, you wanted the football team to beat Notre Dame.

16. You didn't know all of the words to the alma mater.

17. Your closet consisted of almost nothing but blue and orange.

18. Dissecting some organism was unavoidable.

19. Mr. Austin scared you and then immediately made you laugh by bolting in your classroom wearing a monkey mask on Halloween.

20. You just knew that the soccer team was going to beat any opponent they had to face.

21. You wondered why there was no water fountain on the "first lunch" side of the building.

22. You thought that the Sweethearts had a nice dance studio to practice in.

23. Only having four classes on Fridays was much more doable than the typical five.

24. Bathroom passes ranged from pink slips to staffs and jackets.

25. Sperrys were a must, which made your feet soaked on rainy days.

26. You brought (or at least thought about bringing) a blanket to warm you up in the arctic tundra that was the school building.

27. Being zip tied to a chair or having your backpack "nuggeted" were true concerns.

28. Mr. Ieyoub subbed for at least one of your classes.

29. You conversed with Coach Johnson in the commons.

30. Your car was trapped in its parking spot for at least a few minutes.

31. Other students talked to you about their honors and AP classes at length.

32. You tried to access the Internet even though your teacher blocked it.

33. You wondered why you had to take algebra then geometry and then back to algebra.

34. You didn't know which was worse: the 90-minute schedule or 60-minute schedule.

35. Either Mama Kirk or Papa Kirk was your American history teacher.

36. A part of your hair was cut off for the random drug test.

37. You took (or wished you could have taken) fine arts survey.

38. You took the Explore, PLAN, PSAT and ACT tests.

39. Literature lives was the one day a year you wore a costume to school.

40. The library chairs were so comfortable that you didn't want to leave.

41. Getting off-hours your senior year was extremely exciting.

42. You hated the plus/minus grading scale.

43. You knew everyone or almost everyone in your graduating class.

44. Most of your classmates went to McNeese or LSU after graduation.

45. You loved this place and are proud to be an alumni.

Go Saints forever!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
