40 Times To Give Thanks OTHER Than Thanksgiving Day
Simon Maage

Thanksgiving is so close, I could almost smell the mashed potatoes.

With Thanksgiving comes what many refer to ask "The Season of Thankfulness". However, I am a firm believer in giving thanks year round.

So here are many, many, times to be thankful this year other than just Thanksgiving day.

1. When you wake up in the morning.

2. When you eat food of any sort.

3. When someone buys you a meal.

4. When you spend time with your family.

5. When you go on a trip.

6. When you drive somewhere and arrive safely.

7. When you get to spend time with friends.

8. When you go on a hike.

9. When your favorite musician drops a new album.

10. When you go somewhere new.

11. When you meet someone new.

12. When you get a good night sleep.

13. When you have a quality conversation with someone.

14. When you have clean water.

15. When you are able to go to school and get an education.

16. When you get to talk with your grandparents.

17. When you have some free time.

18. When your dog gets excited when you get home.

19. When someone tells you they love you.

20. When you are able to sit down and take a deep breath.

21. When you have shelter.

22. When you get home after a long day.

23. When someone makes you a homecooked meal.

24. When people are genuinely kind.

25. When someone encourages you to be the best version of yourself.

26. When you get to work.

27. When you realize that you have so much freedom.

28. When you get to celebrate something.

29. When you are healthy.

30. When you have food in your pantry.

31. When you have clothes on your back.

32. When you get a promotion.

33. When you get to sleep in.

34. When you get to grab coffee with someone you love.

35. When someone lets you laugh or cry or just be with them.

36. When you can sing in the car with your friends.

37. When you can watch a show that makes you laugh.

38. When there are shoes on your feet.

39. When you get to see the mountains or the beach.

40. When someone helps you out of the kindness of their heart.

There you have it. 40 reasons to be Thankful other than just Thanksgiving day. To be honest, your day might look a little bit different. You might have 40 different times to be thankful, but I would challenge you to sit down and write your own list. Take some time to reflect on the things in your life that you have been given. Even write some reason down each day when you wake up to challenge yourself to start each day with a grateful heart.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
