40 Things We Thought During Our Freshman Year Of College

Our long anticipated freshman year of college is quickly coming to a close. I don't know if it's just me, but this year flew by. It seems like I was just spending half of my day on Pintrest trying to find the cutest dorm setup, looking up "How to Survive College" videos, or counting down the days until move-in. Luckily, we've almost made it though this first year and, as I think back, I have learned a lot this year and you probably have, too.

Although our experiences were different, as we were all trying to make friends, learn how to do school, and figure out life on our own, here are some things I'm sure we all thought this year:

1. These rooms are a lot smaller than I thought.

2. How am I supposed to know who I want to live with next year already? It's October and I'm still trying to figure out if I even have friends.

3. I wish Qdoba had meals.

4. Wow, I walk a lot.

5. Hello college, goodbye snow days.

6. Why is it so bad to wear your lanyard around your neck? It's so much easier.

7. It's so cool that no one cares what you look like in class.

8. If someone asks me my major or hometown again I'm going to flip.

9. I haven't had to make friends since kindergarten.

10. Why does no one talk in class?

11. I miss high school.

12. Wait, what am I saying? No I don't.

13. Look, a puppy!

14. Aw, I miss my dog.

15. I should workout.

16. I miss my mom.

17. I need to sleep more.

18. Sleep is for the weak.

19. Is everyone this stressed?

20. Whoops, I forgot to eat.

21. I drink too much coffee.

22. OK, it's a new semester. I'm going to stay on top of my reading.

23. Well, that didn't last long.

24. I need money.

25. I need a job.

26. I don't have time for a job.

27. I don't want to go to class.

28. I'll skip.

29. No, I can't skip.

30. Just one more episode.

31. Please stop taking my laundry out of the wash and putting it on the ground.

32. I can do whatever I want. Freedom.

33. People are really cool here.

34. Class getting cancelled has to be one of the best feelings.

35. I didn't finish anything on my to-do-list.

36. I can just sense the awkwardness on this bus.

37. Winter sucks even more in college.

38. Wow, finals are actually as bad as everyone says.

39. College sucks.

40.College rocks.

I think "emotional roller coaster" is a great way to describe this year. A year full of brand new people and experiences. A year full of stress and adventures. A year full of self-discovery and confusion. A year full of being homesick and having freedom. We are finally near the finish line. We made it through our freshman year. Go us.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
