Thanksgiving is such an underrated holiday, but there are so many reasons to be excited.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays, if not my all time favorite. It's a whole holiday dedicated to being thankful and eating food with my family, how you could not be excited? If you need a little more motivation to get excited for this holiday, here's your friendly reminder.

1. You get a week off from school.

2. Mashed Potatoes.

3. Turkey and gravy.

4. Quality family time.

5. It's socially acceptable to eat seconds and thirds.

6. There are at least 10 desserts to choose from.

7. You know there will be leftovers.

8. Watching football with your dad.

9. Helping your mom in the kitchen.

10. Having your whole family together for the first time in a long time.

11. Getting to eat a turkey sandwich the next day.

12. Black Friday shopping.

13. Playing games outdoors with your family.

14. Taking a nap after Thanksgiving dinner.

15. Dressing up to never even leave the house.

16. Digging out your family's traditional Thanksgiving recipes.

17. Getting to spend Thanksgiving Eve surrounded by friends and family.

18. Waking up to the smell of turkey cooking.

19. Watching the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

20. Finding a way to make room for dessert.

21. Wondering if the turkey is making you sleepy or you're just exhausted from the long day.

22. Having a whole day dedicated to being thankful for everything you have.

23. Knowing Christmas is right around the corner.

24. Drinking wine or beer all day long.

25. Playing card games after dinner with your family.

26. Reconnecting with old friends in your hometown.

27. Taking a minute to tell everyone what you're thankful for.

28. Not thinking about all the calories you're about to consume.

29. Setting the table for dinner.

30. Having your family pick on you because you still refuse to eat stuffing or squash.

31. You get to stuff your face all day long.

32. If you're in college, this is your fist real meal with real food in a long time.

33. Did I mention mashed potatoes?

34. All of the side dishes that complete the meal.

35. Being able to joke around with your siblings.

36. Charlie Brown's Thanksgiving.

37. All the homemade food.

38. Guilt free eating.

39. I have to mention LEFTOVERS again because, LEFTOVERS.

40. Spending the whole day with your family.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines.
