Last week, I presented six songs to sing when you feel you need to do some praising. This week, I chose some passionate songs to sing when you need to be reminded of what Jesus has done for you. Whether you’re in a funk, feeling weighed down or just want to remember the cross and how great He is, listen to these four great worship songs.
1. O Come to The Altar – Elevation
Elevation does the job of reminding us that none of us are perfect. We were bought with the perfect blood of Jesus. He’s there, just waiting for us to go to Him, and when we do, He turns our sorrow into joy. When we are feeling broken and overwhelmed, “O Come To The Altar” redirects our attention back to what Jesus did for us and how He loves us, how He forgives us no matter who we are or what we’ve done. When we “come to the altar,” we are surrendering our sinful nature to God and He cleanses us in the precious blood of His Son and sees our sin no more.
2. Shoulders – Of King and Country
One of the most powerful lines of any of these songs is presented in this song in particular: “When I'm caught deep in the valley with chaos for my company I'll find my comfort here because I know that You are near” – this prevailing verse declares our trust and hope in Christ and the comfort He provides. No matter what we are going through, remember He is with you, even when it may not feel as if He is. This song helps us take our eyes off our circumstance and puts them on the Lord. As the chorus declares that our help comes from Jesus, it is hard to listen to this song without feeling as if we can go through the darkest of valleys if we put our faith in Him.
3. Eyes on the Sparrow – Newsboys or Lauryn Hill
Matthew 6:26 says “Look at the birds of the air: They do not sow or reap or gather into barns — and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?” and this old time song praises Him for doing just that. Reflecting on this Bible verse in particular, singing this song helps you understand that Jesus cares for everything, even the smallest of things, so you can put into perspective just how much He cares for us. We must rest in His goodness and sing about how happy and free we are – because of Him.
4. Gracious Tempest – Hillsong Young and Free
Last but certainly not least, “Gracious Tempest” is a song about how God loves us. If you needed to be reminded simply of that fact, listen to this. As we sing a line as powerful as “A downpour of unending grace consuming all my reckless ways, my sins submerged Your love has saved my soul” we can’t help but be reminded of the price He paid for us and how amazingly strong His love is for us.
