4 Things to Keep in Mind When Going Through Panhellenic Recruitment

Finding a sorority full of those genuine women you can really connect with is one of the best feelings. I’m so excited for all of the ladies going through recruitment this year to find that for themselves. Here are a few things to keep in mind when going through the process of finding your forever home.

1. Keep an open mind

Make sure to remember everyone is different. Each woman you meet is incredibly unique in their very own way. The same goes for sororities. Each chapter is filled with different women that come together to make it so great. Also keep in mind that the stereotypes and labels you may hear before recruitment aren’t always true. So keep an open mind and know that you can’t believe everything you hear. Don’t let other people influence your decision. It’s your life! Go with what makes you the happiest.

2. Don’t try to be someone you’re not

Be yourself. Wear comfy outfits! If you wouldn't wear a skin tight dress and 5 inch heels then don’t. Wear your cute sun dress and those adorable sandals. Be YOU. These women genuinely want to get to know you. Tell them what you’re passionate about and why you love it so much. Tell them about that time when you and your best friend clicked for the first time. Tell them why you love your dog so much. They want to know who you are and what makes you so great. Get excited and be yourself!

3. Be respectful

Like I said before, everyone is different and unique in their own ways. We all have different things that interest us. So if you come out of a chapter you didn’t like so much, don’t go rambling on about all the things that disappointed you. There are still girls that may have loved the chapter and really enjoyed the women they talked to. If you didn’t enjoy a chapter, that’s okay! Just be positive about the experience. Also, if you end up going back to a house that you didn’t connect with, still be respectful to the members of that chapter. They have been working so incredibly hard to welcome hundreds of girls into their house. So be polite and kind to them even if they aren’t your first choice. Don’t be afraid to give them another chance as well. They asked you back because they saw a spark in you and that’s something you should feel proud of.

4. Relax

I know it can seem like a scary process, but it’s so worth it in the end. Finding that home away from home will definitely pay off when you’re surrounded by hundreds of women who already love and care about you. The members are sometimes just as nervous as you are. They’ve spent days and almost weeks making everything look as great as it does. They were once in your shoes. They know how you're feeling and would be more than happy to reassure you that everything will be okay. You have an exciting journey ahead of you and whether you find your forever home in a sorority or not, you will still have some of the best times of your entire life. Relax and make sure you’re taking care of yourself. Drink water on those hot days and get plenty of sleep. These ladies are so excited to get to know you. Have fun too! Make friendships and make the most of your recruitment.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
