When it comes to the dreaded group projects they are not only a pain but they are pretty much unavoidable in college. Here are some componets to keep in mind to make it through all the group projects that you're in right now and will be in.
1. The Slacker
There's always that one person in the group that puts in little to no effort and can never make it to the meetings. If you are a person that cares about your grades or not letting your team down, don't be the slacker. Relying on the other group members to pick up their slack, these unmotivated members sit back and relax. Another reason to not be this person, your peer evaluation will be terrible and some professors account that in your grade.
2. Availability
This is possibly the hardest element of group projects. Determining meeting times when all or most members are available is near impossible, especially the larger the group. Planning for meetings begins in advance with everyone texting in the group chat when they are free. Then, comes the point where a decision for time, date and place must be made taking into consideration everyones' schedules. The result is usually one time frame where at least 80 percent of the members can make it for at least half of the allotted time, and this is considered a win when it comes to planning meeting times.
3. Work Distribution
There's almost never an even distribution of work within the group, I actually don't think it's possible. There's always someone who wants to take charge, or has to because no one else will, and make the primary decisions for the group. Then there is the slacker(s) that has to be taken into account and then the other members who actually work diligently. Group projects never fail to provide a variety.
4. Peers
Unless you have been blessed by the group-making gods by selecting your own group or you were put into a group with your good friends, you group will have either a stranger, an acquaintance or a person that you know you should know because you have had class before but can't remember their name to save your life. This is one way to make you uncomfortable and meet some new people.
