When I was little, you would always find me right behind you like I was your shadow. I would watch your every move and try to imitate it to my best ability. I would walk the halls in your high heels and with your necklaces around me. When people asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up I would say, “I want to be my mommy.” I would always run to you when my brothers decided to pick on me. You were my go to person.
As I grew older into my preteens, we butted heads a lot. I thought you were always out to ruin my life. In all honesty, you were just always looking out to me. In high school, you turned into my best friend. You were always there to help me through the stressful times of trying to decide what to do with my future. You supported me in everything I did and did your best to make sure I was always smiling. Now that I’m in college, things are a little weird. While I’m sitting in my dorm room I can’t help but think of a few things I need to thank you for.
1. Thanks for knowing when something is wrong and always knowing how to make it right.
I’m convinced you have some sixth sense that always tingles when I am upset. It always seem that my phone rings when I’m stressed out from my busy week. When I’m down on myself you always know how to cheer me up. You never fail to support my dreams and have faith I can do anything.
2. Thanks for answering all my questions.
I probably call you at least twice a week asking you how to make food or what I can put in the washer together. I’m not quite sure how you know everything, but I’m very thankful that you do.
3. Thanks for raising one heck of a daughter.
Ever since I was little you always made sure that I would stick up for myself. You taught me how fight my own battles and never let someone walk all over me. You always taught me that if I wanted something I had to go out and get it. I can’t thank you enough for this because I never had anything handed to me. I now know how to defend my beliefs and chase my goals.
4. Thanks for being my best friend.
Everyone has a mom, but if you’re really lucky she also turns into your best friend. Let’s face it, we gossip together more than I do with my friends. I love spending my days shopping or watching our favorite shows together. Not seeing you every day sucks, but I know you’re always supporting me from the side. No matter where I go in life home will always be wherever you are. Thank you for being my favorite person and the best role model.
