It’s around the time when everyone is having their first exam — or have already had it. If you didn’t get the grade you wanted, or you want a better chance at higher grade, use these simple tips to help your study habits.
1. Find out what study style works best for you.
Do you tend to do better when you read straight out of the book, when you make flashcards and quiz yourself or study with a group? If you can figure out what study style suits you, use it as often as you can.
2. Give yourself time to take a break.
Force yourself to pull away from the books, just be sure to set a timer. Don’t take a break for more than 20 minutes; it’ll be harder to pull yourself back into focus.
3. Don’t cram.
It’s easy to assure yourself that one night of endless studying will help you do better on that test, but it probably won’t. Instead, try studying during the day for a few days before the exam.
4. Sleep on it.
Sleeping helps activate those memory centers you need on the test. By studying a few days in advance and sleeping, you are helping your brain store your studying into long-term memory. This means you will have a higher chance at remembering the answers on your exam.
