4 Stereotypes Against Black Women

Black women have so many negative stereotypes against them that aren't explained in depth for people to understand, so I thought of four common stereotypes that have been placed upon black women for decades.

1. "Black women always wearing weaves, they must not have any hair."

OKAY, first of all, there are plenty of women from all over who wear weaves. Weaves are just a necessity, and have always been. However, there has been cases for which women would wear weaves for protecting their natural hair, or other various of things. There's nothing wrong with being versatile with your hair.

2. "Black women have bad attitudes."

That is the most ignorant thing ever said, and I'm not too sure why everyone could think that. I like to say we're divas who don't take mess and are very observant of our surroundings. (Just kidding, but seriously). Just because we walk with pride with our shoulders held high doesn't mean we have sour attitudes.

3. "Black women can't keep a man."

I wouldn't say all black women can't keep a man simply because there are a lot of successfully black heterosexual relationships within the black community and a lot of which we're all aware of. Jay Z and Beyonce, Barack and Michelle Obama, Will and Jada, and many more. In my family, my mother and my father's side there are plenty of couples who have sustained they're relationship for years and still love each other.

4. "Black women are bitter."

I personally feel like some black women are fed up, we're the least appreciated in society and the most unprotected. But through it all we rise and manage to be happy. Just because you may come across one black woman who is bitter, or you may have a close friend that you know who just so happens to be bitter doesn't mean that ALL black women classify as bitter.

Being a young black woman I have heard these streotyoes from other black women the most and have seen society attack us on all other aspects. This breaks the community down, this is why I'm so adament on sticking close together because in the end we're all we've got.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
