When the Pokemon Go app released, it quickly became popular. I thought to myself " Sure, Pokemon is pretty awesome, but it can't be that great!" So for a whole solid day I didn't let the curiosity get me. I am almost 21, and Pokemon is for our childhood right? However, I would see post after post and snap chat after snap chat of this new Pokemon Go; still, I stayed true and did not download the app. That night though, I saw my boyfriend open it up. I was like oh great, but as I watched him more... it did seem pretty cool... so I caved in and immediately downloaded it! I quickly realized why so many people enjoy it. Below is a list of how Pokemon Go is growing on me.
1. It Encourages Exercise
It encourages you to get up and GO! If you want to find more Pokemon you have to keep walking/running. I am not lying when I say I walked around my whole apartment complex twice last night just to catch more Pokemon. Normally, I would be in my bed being lazy at the end of the day. It doesn't matter that it is 95 degrees outside people are getting out and searching for Pokemon!
2. It Encourages You To Explore
Oh there happens to be a Bulbasaur over there deep in the woods, you best believe I am walking into the woods to get it!
3. It Encourages You To Interact
Not only does it encourage you to get together with your friends and go catch more Pokemon, but it also encourages you to interact with strangers. There are a ton of different Pokemon gyms where you can battle your Pokemon and train them to be stronger against other people at places like the mall, restaurants, and even churches. I can't tell you how many people I have seen ( yes I have done it as well) go on Pokemon Go searching dates. Normally our boyfriends would be on video games with their guy friends, but now we are playing right along side them. My boyfriend is a huge help for sure. Even though I watched Pokemon growing up I barely remember much, so when I see a Pokemon I describe how it looks, and he will just look over at me and kinda laugh and tell me " Silly, the thing you're describing as a tiger would be called a Growlithe." Not to mention some of the names are hard to pronounce!
4. Childhood Nostalgia
I remember waking up before school to watch Ash on his pokemon adventures with my brother. Playing this game is sure bringing back good memories, but the coolest thing is it's like your childhood imagination has come to life.
I know I am almost 21, and writing an article about Pokemon, but it is refreshing to let loose and relive your childhood every once and a while. So even if you didn't watch pokemon growing up, I highly suggest now is a good time to get into it no matter what your age is. The great thing about Pokemon Go is it could truly be a whole family thing! Im just thankful in a society that is technology dominated there is a game that encourages activity and interaction with others!
