These past few months, I've found some solid pop songs with the help of Spotify's many constantly updated playlists, music blogs, podcasts like All Songs Considered and Music That Matters and reliable music journalism sites such as Rolling Stone, Pitchfork Magazine, and The Consequence of Sound. Below are three that have stuck out the most for me this summer.
It's always exciting to see that look on your buddy's face when you know he's on the same page as you with a song's catchiness. I plan on throwing on these jams for my friends whenever I have the chance back at school.
Kisser - Step Rockets
The electro melody comes out with a punch, and maintains it's power throughout with this dude who sounds a ton like the singer from Ghost Land Observatory.
Sjowgren - Seventeen
One of those songs that feels like it's always building, climbing upward throughout. It's a cool effect that makes this instant hit easy to turn up louder.
RAC - Back of the Car (Feat. Nate Henricks)
It's been really exciting seeing this remix artist come out confidently with some original material. I heard him tell the podcast, Song Exploder, he doesn't feel writing original songs is any more or less creative than his remixes, just different.
Jamie xx - Loud Places (ft Romy)
I'm not a huge the xx fan, but I do enjoy a lot of their beats. This Jamie xx side project track takes that band's creativity and maximizes that hazy vocal vibe into a low-key party jam.
