If you've ever seen any Nicholas Sparks' movie, they are all pretty similar. There's always a gorgeous female lead, accompanied somehow by an even more gorgeous male lead. They fall in love, have some sort of incident, and work it out in the end. Although the gist is the same, they are all completely different.
There's something that gets me every time about this magical story of two people falling in love. I have yet to pinpoint what it is, but since my tween years, these sappy, love-filled movies have developed me into one of the biggest hopeless romantics ever, I'm pretty sure. Here's some reasoning behind couples that get me every time.
1. The Notebook
If you want a love story, there is none more basic yet captivating than Allie and Noah's. Of course her family is weary of Noah and his boyish charm, but Allie loves his sense of adventure and incredible sweet talk. Noah's obsession with his dream house and wanting to create a life for himself and Allie makes your heart melt. Every. Time. It doesn't hurt that Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams mesh so well together, and can create a sense of on-screen chemistry that makes you feel as if you are the one living their relationship. Of course, you have the steamy, make-up makeout in the rain scene, which just brings us right back to the swooning. The cliché of the movie is almost too much, but yet just enough.
2. The Choice
This is your classic, next-door neighbor that will make you want to move immediately. Travis gets me every time with his smooth talk and "I'm better than you attitude", and every time I've seen it I end up falling for his character just a little more. Gabby, who's played by Teresa Palmer, is one of the most naturally stunning actresses and can throw her sass around like nobody's business. Of course there's the incident which makes you hate that such terrible things happen to such awesome characters, but of course their love is strengthened by the end and makes you want someone to have by your side that will love you that much through anything and everything.
3. The Lucky One
I'll just start off by saying two words, Zac Efron. It's your elementary school crush come to life as this new, hot marine named Logan. His own journey leads him to walk, yes walk, across the country to find a girl who saved his life in a way she is not even aware of. As the two of them grow close, Logan's secret begins to burn and grow along with their relationship. Logan's help around the house as well as his strength appeal to Beth, played by Taylor Schilling, and lead the two of them to develop an intense physical attraction towards each other. Logan's protective side leaves you wishing someone could hold you and care for you like Logan does.
4. Safe Haven
Personally this is one of my all time favorites. Not only are my two favorite actors in it, Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel, but this movie will tug on your heart strings in almost every scene. The movie opens so intensely there's hardly a chance to shy away. Katie and Alex (Hough and Duhamel) develop a relationship that tests the waters for both of them, but the bond they create keeps you rooting for them throughout the movie. Duhamel's character has children in the film and will make you hope/ wish you end up with a husband as good with kids as he is. They both learn through each other and although the times are beyond challenging and create a sense of love that leaves your heart both broken and full by the end of the movie.
Feel free to agree or disagree, but don't put a chick flick aside before you watch it. You may not regret it after all.
