One of the best things about UIUC is how big the campus is. This means there are millions of different places to study at. You can literally find any room in any building and study in it. If you’re like me, studying at the same place almost every day can get boring. I like to switch things up and try out different spots on campus. Besides, places like the UGL and Grainger can get awfully crowded, especially during midterms and finals. Here are some unusual, occasionally quiet places to study at on campus.
1. Krannert Art Museum 500 E Peabody Dr, Champaign, IL 61820
I discovered this place when I had an art class here last year. The first floor is filled with students’ artwork and a little cafe. Personally, I like studying at the cafe because there is a lot of open space and it’s almost never crowded. There are also a number of classrooms on the left side of the building. Downstairs, you will find a mini art museum with numerous galleries. This gallery was confusing me for at first because there are actually different floors to it. If you have not checked it out yet, I highly recommend it!
2. Psychology Building 603 E Daniel St, Champaign, IL 61820
The first floor of the Psychology building has a “study” center with tons of seating and space. This area contains a high ceiling and a large group of plants in the middle; how aesthetically pleasing! It is also super quiet, so it is a perfect place to concentrate and get work done. It does close around 9:30-10 pm on the weekdays though.
3. Lincoln Hall 702 S Wright St, Urbana, IL 61801
I know this building is common and a ton of people have classes here, but not a lot of people study outside of Lincoln Hall. There is a little hidden area with outside seating, which you can enter through the theatre. The only downside is that there is a limited amount of seating. Despite this, it is really relaxing and full of green life. If you have a class at Lincoln Hall, I encourage you to try to find this area!
4. Caffe Paradiso 801 S Lincoln Ave, Urbana, IL 61801
Tired of Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts? Check out this cute little cafe is located on Lincoln Ave! Caffe Paradiso proudly serves Intelligentsia coffee, a little change up from your usual Starbucks drink. There’s also snacks and tea! It gets a little loud, especially when there is a load of people, but there are a lot of seats available. This cafe is vibrant, a little hipster-y, and full of life. It almost makes you feel like you’re off campus.
