College changes a lot of things. It's not surprising -- you're in a whole new environment. The possibility of things in our lives that can change when we get here are endless. Your social groups change, your academic interests change, even your favorite foods might change. And most of us have always had that select group of apps that we play in our leisure time. And sure enough, those apps have probably changed too.
Now that we're in college, we have different needs. Here are the apps that you start to use more once you get to college:
1. Yik Yak
The difference between Yik Yak in college versus in high school is night and day. When I went on Yik Yak in high school, I saw a post every two days talking about something irrelevant. When I check Yik Yak now, it's always blowing up. I read things from the squirrels on campus, and quick updates that give insight into the night life of students. Yik Yak is probably the most dramatic example of an app being popular among only one demographic. And for whatever reason, I'm addicted to it.
2. Mathway
Math. Most of us hate it, but we all have to take it at least once. And nobody has the time to work out the equations. Okay, we should be working them out, but sometimes we need some extra help. In comes Mathway. Type in the problem, and Mathway has it solved. It's a grade saver, and it's free. If you decide to pay for a membership, Mathway will also show you the steps it took to find the answer.
3. Netflix
We used Netflix a lot in high school, but we use it more in college. It's so relevant to our lives. Our money supply tends to be a lot more scarce once we move away from our parents who pay the cable bill, and we need all the relief we need. Netflix is insanely cheap, and it has so many shows and movies to choose from. It's a great activity during the week to relieve your brain from studying. And it's great for the weekend on nights you want to stay in with a couple of friends. Some of us love it so much, it'll end up being our date for Valentine's Day.
4. Tinder
We shouldn't have been using Tinder in the first place because we weren't 18 years old! College is a time to meet potential spouses. But (unfortunately) our generation has shifted to a more digital strategy when it comes to meeting companions. In comes Tinder. Where you create your future with a left and right swipe.
A majority of our time in college should be spent hitting the books. But in our free time, it's worth your while to use these apps.
