Going to college out of state is definitely a change in scenery. No matter how much you love your new home, you will always have a piece of your heart in your home state. Even though I am only two states away, it feels like a whole new country. Here are the things I miss most about my home state:

1. The bipolar weather

It goes from pouring rain to the most beautiful day ever in the time period of 15 minutes.

2. The Gator v Nole rivalry

It can divide friends and family faster than a racecar on a Sunday.

3. The searing of my skin when I sit down in my hot car

And the usual fatal attempt for finding a parking spot in the shade.

4. My car and the driving that accompanies that

I miss driving for at least 10 minutes to get anywhere.

5. Good ass food

It's not Momma's cooking, its seafood that came out of the ocean less than a few hours before.

6. The togetherness that everyone feels after a bad hurricane

I love how everyone helps clean up the mess after a storm.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
