As we get closer to the anticipated Thanksgiving break, let's reflect on a couple things we all appreciate throughout the year.

1. College Student Discounts

Chegg. Amazon Prime. Apple. Spotify/ Hulu. Best Buy. Cinemark or Regal. The Wall Street Journal. Retailers. Student discounts are the real MVP.

2. Venmo

Seriously, it makes life simpler.

3. Any caffeinated drink

Pick your poison for those late nights and early mornings. My go-to is and will always be coffee.

4. Any university event that provides free food

FREE FOOD!

5. Friends that bring you food when you're stressed

Those are the true MVP's.

6. Professors that bring food to class

You know it's going to be a good day when this happens.

7. The "typical college kid" stereotypes that justify your dumb actions

#collegelife

8. When your mom or dad sends you a picture of your dog(s) from home

*tries not to cry in class at how cute your dog is.

9. Being an "adult": running errands and getting your life in order

Sometimes...

10. But, also when you call your parents for help when your check engine light comes on and you don't know what to do... They will.

This has happened to me several times, and I still have yet to learn.

11. An hour or two of free time to chill, eat, nap, or catch up on Netflix

Or all at once. I've done it.

12. Cancelled classes

More time to sleep in. Or extra study time for an exam.

13. Exam Curves

BLESS THE CURVE.

14. Bonus points for course evaluations

Even if you wrote a brief review on what a subpar lecturer they were, you still got the points.

15. Extensions on assignments.

Because let's be honest, you were probably going to push it off anyways.

16. When the professor provides the prompts for your essay exam

Maybe I can get my studying organized for once.

17. Professors you can actually talk to and not be uncomfortable

Those casual conversations are so reassuring.

18. When the Quizlet has everything you need to know for the exam

Praise be students from previous years.

19. When the professor decides to give the class a break

A well-deserved one, that's for sure.

20. The freedom to chose and organize your schedules

Registering for classes is not a fun task, but at least there's one little luxury.

21. That moment when your schedule turns out exactly how you had hoped

This is rare, but it happens.

22. Getting into a class after being on the waitlist for what felt like years

The stress lifts off your shoulders!

23. Actually getting the GPA you wanted

Again, rare. But if you strive hard enough maybe you'll get a decent expected one.

24. Friends that actually care about your well-being

No need for fake friendships, we're all struggling here. Let's support one another through life.

25. Friendsgiving

The perfect excuse to stay home with friends and eat all the food you want without guilt.

26. Long-distance buddies

Calling them up to escape university life.

27. Fall Back

That extra hour of sleep was much appreciated.

28. Cooler weather

No more sweating on your way to your next class.

29. Sweatshirts

Every day in college is a lazy day.

30. Seeing dogs around campus

I want to see and pet ALL the dogs.

31. Therapy dogs

The best stress relief.

32. The upcoming breaks

Thanksgiving and Christmas Breaks, here we come!

33. Home cooked meals when you finally get to go home

Too good.

34. Actually striving towards your future

Instead of constantly thinks of what you want to do, you get to put it into action.

35. University has become your second home

A home away from home.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
