It's almost that time of the year again: The Silver Needle Runway Show at Marist! This year, I am the model coordinator for the production team and wanted to give everyone a little insight about why they should definitely attend this amazing event to support the Marist Fashion Department. Trust me, you are not going to want to miss this!
The Silver Needle Runway Show started back in 1986, 30 years ago, which makes this year extra special. It is the 30th year, and we are doing everything to make this the best show yet. The show is created mainly by the students. Yes, you read that right! A class of 28 students creates the Silver Needle Runway Show every year. There are three teams that are broken up by their category: communications, creative, and production. With the help of the fashion department faculty, we are able to make this fantastic show happen every year.
I think that a lot of people do not understand just how much work goes into creating such a big event and the fact that it is the students booking the models for the show, or creating all of the videos and displays, or even sending out press kits and getting sponsors for the show. It is an extremely amazing way to gain real world experience in every aspect of the fashion industry.
What makes the show so great? It is a way to show all of our design students' hard work and extreme talent in a fun and professional manner. Some sophomores and juniors are selected to have one of their pieces shown in the fashion show. Senior designers have an entire collection presented. These pieces all get voted on by professional judges from around the world. A few students will then be rewarded with scholarships and awards for their incredible work. The show is really an event to celebrate the crazy amount of time and effort the design students have taken to create such amazing works of art.
Going to the Silver Needle Runway Show is a great experience and it is also a great way to support Marist and your friends. This year the show will be held Friday, May 6, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center. Tickets are only $25 and can be found on Ticketmaster by searching Marist Fashion.
