30 Thoughts That You Have When Riding A Michigan Blue Bus

As a previous resident of North Campus and a current engineering student, I take Michigan Blue Bus trips multiple times per day without fail. The bus is one of the most annoying parts of my daily schedule. That being said, riding the bus always makes for an entertaining time and it gives me a funny story to tell at the end of the day. If you're like me and take the bus regularly, you'll be able to relate to these thoughts that we've all had while riding the bus.

1. "OMG the bus that I need is already sitting at CC Little. Should I run?"

2. "It seriously looks like it's about to pull away, but I can never tell. OK, I'm gonna run just in case."

3. "Alright, cool, start driving away while you see me running."

4. "I'm never running for a bus again."

5. "Is the time on the board that says when the next bus is coming accurate?"

6. "I've been waiting for 10 minutes and it's definitely not accurate."

7. "I really should check the bus app, but I'm just gonna keep standing here and wondering where the bus is."

8. "Finally, it's here! Move out of my way, people. I need to be the first person on this bus."

9. "Why does getting on the bus always turn into a mosh pit?"

10. "Wow, there are so many people on this bus who I want to avoid."

11. "Why aren't my headphones in? I can't survive a bus ride without my headphones."

12. "Why are you singing? You may be a music major, but no one wants to hear you right now."

13. "Why are you talking so loudly? If I can hear you over my music, you need to lower your voice."

14. "Why is it so hot in here?"

15. "Is this bus driver even old enough to have their license?"

16. "I swear that I use 90 percent of my monthly data while I'm on the bus."

17. "My phone died. Classic. I'm still gonna keep my headphones in so that no one talks to me."

18. "Will people judge me if I eat a snack right now?"

19. "Is it worth it to get off at the closest stop if I have to ask everyone to move out of my way and climb over 20 people?"

20. "It's definitely not worth it. I'll just wait until the next stop when everyone is getting off."

21. "We're approaching the stop. Should I pull the cord to stop the bus now or would that seem eager?"

22. "No one has pulled it yet. Come on, people, I'm counting on you!"

23. "OK, it's crunch time. I guess that I have to pull the cord."

24. "That was kinda fun, I should do that more often."

25. "Is it rude if I don't say thank you to the bus driver?"

26. "Why does my water bottle fall out of its side pocket every time when I put my backpack back on?"

27. "Why do my earphones get caught under my backpack every time when I put my backpack back on?

28. "Ugh, I don't want to start walking again."

29. "I can't believe that some people have never had to ride the bus."

30. "I hate everyone who's never had to ride the bus."

I never had a chance to ride school buses in grade school or high school, so thank you to UMich for allowing me to experience a bus system.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
