30 Things To Do Instead Of Studying For Your Midterm

Or instead of doing anything you're supposed to do. Whichever.

Sometimes, I'm an obsessive perfectionist, and other times, I'm a lazy procrastinator who thinks, "Why be productive when I could just... not?"

I may or may not have done all of these.

1. Re-watch your favorite movie.

2. Watch a movie that you hate and take notes on why it’s bad (optional: write a blog post about it).

3. Wash your sheets for the first time in months.

4. Vacuum your room for the first time ever.

5. Make cookies using only substitutes for ingredients that the internet swears are just as good.

6. Do other, less taxing homework assignments that are due long after you have to take your midterm.

7. Imagine you have 26 children and name them using each letter of the alphabet only once.

8. Figure out if you still know the moves to that song to which you and your friends choreographed a dance routine when you were 11 (we all have one).

9. Look up “how to do the splits” on YouTube and spend 30 minutes trying to teach yourself.

10. Type some of the symptoms you’ve been experiencing into Google and convince yourself you have some obscure disease.

11. Lay on your bed and whine to yourself about how much work you have to do.

12. Try to make a DIY face mask with bananas, avocados, and yogurt, and for some reason not wash it off when your face starts to burn.

13. Paint your nails and then convince yourself that you have to wait at least 20 minutes before opening your book to avoid ruining them.

14. Convince yourself that you can watch an hour long episode of a show in 15 minutes.

15. Moisturize your entire body, because keeping your skin soft and smooth is of equal or more importance to getting good grades.

16. Make that vision board you’ve always wanted to make.

17. Read Julie Andrews’s entire Wikipedia page and let it take you where it takes you.

18. Open your book and pull out your notes, then congratulate yourself for your hard work and take a well-earned break.

19. Make a shopping list that would be useful if you suddenly had all the money you wanted.

20. Make a list of all the people who have made you angry in the past and get pointlessly riled up about it.

21. Go on a website that you used to visit when you were in middle school and see what it's up to nowadays.

22. Start watching a new show on Netflix. No, don't continue watching a show. Start a new one.

23. Watch hair/makeup tutorials on YouTube (actually trying the looks is optional).

24. Look at pictures of your pets on your phone for an absurd amount of time.

25. Bake one of those cakes in a mug.

26. Sing loudly to a karaoke version of "Chandelier" by Sia and pretend that you sound good.

27. Write your speech for the Grammy that you won for your breathtaking cover of "Chandelier" by Sia.

28. Watch all of Taylor Swift's old music videos and reminisce about your fleeting youth.

29. Stare off into the distance and waste good time doing absolutely nothing.

30. Look at the clock and panic because you're going to fail your midterm, and then get up and make yourself some hot chocolate.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
