I absolutely love Thanksgiving. You get a break from classes to go home, see your family, and eat. Even though my mom makes the kind of stuffing that I could be content sitting on the couch and eating out of a bucket with a large spoon, I don't go home just for the food. My family means the world to me, and I knew coming to college and not seeing them everyday was going to be a huge change. I never imagined that I would be lucky enough to find another family here.
Two years ago, I joined the Phi Eta chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon at Northeastern University, and I can easily consider that one of the best decisions I've ever made. And here's why-- the reasons why I'm thankful for my sisters:
1. They're always up for random dance parties.
2. I never have to get nachos alone.
3. There are always a ton of familiar faces around campus.
4. They come grocery shopping with me, making even running errands fun.
5. There's always someone with a table in the library.
6. They can tell from a single Snapchat that I'm having a bad day, and be over in minutes.
7. They move around their schedule to come to the gym with me, so I don't have to face the weight room alone.
8. They're brutally honest about when my dancing becomes absolutely horrid, and save me from embarrassing myself further.
9. They bring my favorite cookies to class, just because they felt like it.
10. They understand the difference between the nights when I need a girls night in, and the nights when I need to find a table to dance on.
11. They attempt to teach me how to curl my hair and put on makeup.
12. When I yet again fail to learn, they do it for me. Every time.
13. They know my favorite Ben and Jerry's flavor, and the kinds of days when I need it.
14. They volunteer to help move all of my belongings across campus in 90 degree weather. And they don't even hold it against me later.
15. They know not to try to contact me between 9 and 10 PM on Thursday nights because they understand that watching Scandal is a vital part of the week.
16. They took a chance on a lost little freshman.
17. They wear our letters with pride, and remind me everyday how lucky I am to have them.
18. They never ask me to be anything other than exactly who I am.
19. They watch The Bachelor, Bachelor in Paradise, and The Bachelorette with me (and they only make fun of me a little bit when I get too into it).
20. They didn't judge me for how excited I was when I heard Ben Higgins was going to be the next Bachelor, and they got on board.
21. They took the initiative to look up casting calls for his season.
22. They let me be a hopeless romantic in college. And they do everything they can to protect me when I'm too naive for my own good about it.
23. They're some of the kindest, most courageous people I've ever met.
24. They introduced me to burritos. I don't think I'll ever be quite the same.
25. They're living representations of our motto: Esse Quam Videri, "to be rather than to seem to be."
26. They prove every stigma about Greek life dead wrong.
27. They've made me happier and more confident than I ever thought I could be.
28.They're my classmates, my best friends, my roommates, my support system, and my daily source of unicorn jokes.
29. They're going to make choosing my bridesmaids the hardest decision I'll ever make.
30. They've given me an even better college experience than I could have ever imagined.
