Don't get me wrong, finally being on summer vacation is something every college kid dreams about. Finally home, no more classes, or finals, or being stuck in a dingy dorm, which all have their perks. But also being right in the middle of summer has it's own challenges.
For instance, it can sometimes be difficult to think of things to do. A typical conversation between my friends and I revolves around the fact that we want to hangout but we don't know what to do. So here are 3 ideas of things you can do this summer to eliminate the lingering sense of boredom the middle of summer often brings.
1. Make time for art
This summer I had a few weeks before I started working again so I wasn't really sure what to do with my life. On a whim, I went to Michael's and bought all the discounted painting supplies one could possibly need and started painting. For the record, these are not intricate Vincent Van Gogh-like paintings. More of like polka dots and flowers type of thing. Anyways, it is a great way to take up time as well as a great stress reliever.
2. Take a class
Take an elective class that sounds interesting to you! Maybe this is a yoga, nutrition, or art class! Take a course in which you won't feel forced to go to. Or take a cooking class! Do something that makes your brain work a little bit! I took a pizza making class this summer and it was one of the most fun things I have done all of break!
3. Read a book
I know reading is the last thing most students want to do on their time off but, reading for fun is one of my favorite summer activities. This summer I picked up a copy of Amy Poehler's "Yes Please" and i cannot put it down. Take this book to the beach, the pool, or just a comfy place in your house and indulge in someone else's life for a while.
These are the three things I have tried to do in order to keep busy this summer and avoid boredom and I hope you can do the same!
