Ladies, this one's for you. I hope it never happens, but sometimes in your love life, a guy might break your heart. Trust me — as much as it hurts, you will survive it, and you'll actually learn things from it. In the end you become grateful, to a point, to this guy. So here are the three things I want to say thank you for to the guy who broke my heart. I hope that maybe you'll read this and learn from it instead of having to experience it yourself.
1. Thank you for teaching me that I am enough.
Because, let's face it, I was never enough for you. The ridiculous part is I tried so hard to become someone that you would want, and in the midst of doing that, I lost myself. So thank you for teaching me that I am enough and that the right person will know that and love me for it. Because you know what? I am one amazing woman.
2. Thank you for being an a** hole.
I know that sounds crazy, but hear me out. If you were never such a horrible person, I wouldn't be able to tell what a good one looks like. So thank you for showing me what I don't want in someone, and for showing me that I deserve something better.
3. Thank you for teaching me that it's OK to walk away.
For the longest time, I was stuck fighting for you, and the whole time you kept me at a distance. Close enough to satiate me, but far enough away to make you happy. Eventually I was left with a choice. I could either stay and work at being with someone who I was only ever going to get bits and pieces of, or I could choose myself and love myself for who I was. I chose to walk away, and it was the best thing I ever did. So thank you for teaching me that it's OK to walk away and that it's OK to choose my happiness first.

If you've already gone through the same thing, you should be so proud of yourself. I know I am. Regardless of where you are, you deserve happiness. You deserve to be with someone who loves you for you, and don't you ever settle for anything less.
