I remember being 8 years old and my great grandmother calling me to her bedroom because she wanted something. As soon as I entered her bedroom, I see her going through an old cardboard box with lots of dust on it. She then said, “I was going throw this box that I found while I was in the attic, do you want this old comic book?” When she handed it to it said, “The Amazing Spider-man, introducing Kraven the Hunter.” Now I wasn’t that big into reading when I was 8, but when I was reading that comic I instantly fell in love with it. I didn’t only fall in love with characters either. I also fell in love with the action, story, artwork and everything else about it as well. I remember reading that comic book ten times that night because I was so hooked on it. That’s how I first got hooked on Spider-man. Ever since then I’ve been reading Spider-man comics for as long as I could remember. Don’t get me wrong, I read a lot of other comics growing up like Teen Titans, Nightwing and X-Men, but to this very day I would have to say Spiderma holds a place in my heart as one of the comic book series ever made. Somebody once asked me once why do you like Spider-man so much? Well at first I just wanted to chop that person in the throat for asking such a crazy ass question, but I realized it was fair enough to explain my reason. Here are the three main reasons why Spider-man is my favorite superhero!
- He has some of the coolest superpowers ever!
- He fights some of the best super-villains!
- He is such a relatable character!
Even though he doesn’t have the ability to fly or shoot lasers out his eyes, he does have some other pretty kick-ass powers. For instance, he has super strength, agility, and can climb and stick to walls. I would have to say that my power that Spiderman has his spider sense. Whenever danger is near or about to happen his spider sense kicks in and warns him. If that power doesn’t come in handy I don’t know what does. Also, let’s not forget that Spider-man is a genius! I mean the guy was able to make his own web shooters with no help at all and is known as one of the youngest geniuses in the marvel universe. So remember that when someone says Spider-man is useless.
Now I can’t speak for anyone else, but am I the only one that thinks that Spider-man fights some of the best super-villains ever? I mean come on you see some superheroes who have some great opponents. but nothing compares to Spider-man’s enemies. I mean Spider-man has fought, Doctor Octopus, The Chameleon, Kraven the Hunter, Electro, The Lizard, and so on. He even has grown to have two of his greatest arch enemies which are Green Goblin and Vemon. Personally my favorite Spider-man villain is Morlun but I’ll save that discussion for another day. Anyway his villains are so cool because they all are different in their own unique way.
I’ll let you in on a little secret. I was never a huge Superman fan growing up. Oh sure he was cool in the Justice League and stuff but his character just seemed to…perfect to me. Unless you had kryptonite (which is hard as hell to find) Superman was damn near a God to everyone else. Spiderman's alter ego Peter Parker was such a relatable character because he was just an ordinary teenager. He was an awkward, shy, and smart teenager who was just trying to find his way in life. I mean come on even if you were popular in high school everybody knows how it feels to want to fit in. Plus he is relatable because when he got his powers he still had to try and juggle his everyday problems like his love life or taking care of his Aunt May all while fighting crime as Spider-man. Plus when he is Spider-man he cracks jokes like there’s no tomorrow. I love how he can be at the edge of death while fighting an opponent but still make a joke at that very moment. Say what you want but I feel as though Peter Parker is one of the most down to earth superheroes in the Marvel universe.
