In my spare time, watching television is my very last resort. What I mean by that is, if I can find another way to spend my time, whether that be doing homework, sending e-mails, cleaning my room-anything is better than sitting on a couch, flipping through channels watching television. I've always been the type of person that always needs to be doing something, even as a little kid I would divert to other forms of entertainment other than watching T.V. Once in a while I'll sit down to watch a movie on HBO, but that's about it. Here are my three reasons for not liking T.V.:
1. I feel unproductive.
To those of you who can do your homework while watching television, I commend you for that because not many people can. I, personally, cannot sit and do my homework while watching television. I cannot just sit in one spot while watching T.V. because I feel like I am wasting my time when I could be doing something else. If I am going to sit down and stay still in front of a screen, whatever is in front of me needs to be VERY GOOD for me to stay engaged and feel like I took a breather instead of wasted my time.
2. There's never anything to watch.
This may just be me having horrible luck, but the few times that I have sat down and tried watching T.V., I find myself just flipping through channels over and over again and then my thoughts are reaffirmed that there is a reason why I never liked television in the first place. What was supposed to be me turning to my last resort of entertainment and relaxing quickly turned into a game of how fast I can flip through all of the channels without stopping. That's productive, isn't it?
3. I'm allergic to BS.
From what I have seen on television, the majority of it contains content that is either biased, violent, immature, unrealistic or all of the above. What happened to the real shows like "That's So Raven" or "Full House?" We've got news stories on violence within our law enforcement, shows about dogs writing their own blogs (wtf?) and a show dedicated to the Kardashians. Even as I write all of that out I am beginning to feel my sinuses congest, because I'm allergic to that kind of stuff.
So there you have it. I do not like television. There's too much of the world to see and memories to make and of my room to clean to sit down and watch something on television. To those of you who get your entertainment from television or get your news from it, I commend you all! Don't take any of this personally, I'm just a small gal who really cannot sit still in front of a screen for the life of her.
