Since I was in middle school I always dreamed of touring Europe, particularily Poland, 4 years later my dream finally came true, I finally crossed Poland off my bucket list! I was in Krakow for a couple days but that was more than enough time to fall in love with the wonderful country. I could list thousands of reasons as to why one MUST go to Poland before you die, however, I think these 3 will be enough.
1. History
With thick World War II roots shaping the Polish culture, every building seems to be embedded with a way the Cold War forever changed this country's destiny. Many historical buildings or monuments make Poland seem like a time machine triggering sudden awareness and emotions to commemorate powerful moments in history. Walking into any store, cafe, or restaurant has a very warm welcoming feeling filled with this Polish culture. My personal favorite was during dinner at a Jewish Restaurant Cafe the atmosphere was great and it seemed like I was having dinner at home. The food was marvelous, the service was very welcoming and prompt and the entertainment was unforgettable.
2. Wieliczka Salt Mine
The most popular mine in the world is definitely a must in Krakow! Hop down 800 steps to the cool underground mine that holds 20 chambers, including a beautifully sculpted church! The church is finely sculptured with an alter, pews, images of The Last Supper, and even a statue of St. John Paul II. The 3 hour tour is filled with fascinating facts about the mines and stories to explain the signifigance of each sculpture. You can find chambers that seem like a work day frozen in time; miners and horses breaking and scuplting salt. If you get hungry during the tour feel free to lick a wall or two while you walk through the 700 hundred year old salt mine.

3. Auschwitz-Birkenau
Visit the concentration camp that heavily impacted humanity during World War II. This experience will truly change your life. Often times we forget the cruel things that nearly wiped out a population. No words can possibly explain or express how you will feel after completing a tour in the world's most famous concentration camp.
I can promise you that you will love Poland as much as I did! Be sure to check out St. Mary's Cahedral, Schindler's Factory and the Empty Chair Memorial that once was a popular place in the Jewish Ghetto.
Although the streets of Poland are not crazily buzzing with tourists like most European countries, the English language is common so learning the traveling basics in Polish will be sufficient.
Safe travels!
