There is no question that Coachella is the biggest music festival of the year. It is something that everyone should experience at least once in their life. The only question is...if you have enough money to afford it.
I'm not talking about the ticket itself, which will be a minimum of $375, I'm talking about the entire experience of Coachella. You have to take in account the expenses of traveling there, paying for a place to stay, food and drinks. The entire weekend is going to add up which is why I speak for most people when i say it's a once in a lifetime experience.
I know I usually become increasingly jealous upon seeing all the Instagram pictures and videos of my favorite artists playing my favorite song in an unbelievably gorgeous setting in Indio, California, telling myself that's going to be me next year. And of course, the next year rolls around and that is not me Instagramming my favorite artist on the fairgrounds of Coachella in Indio, California. But it's okay because now that I am older, I am more aware of several alternative options to Coachella that take place in a similar time, but in different settings.
Here is my advice on alternative music festivals instead of Coachella if you want to save some money or see a better a lineup.
Sasquatch.
The first option I have is a music festival known as Sasquatch in George, Washington. Sasquatch takes place Memorial Day weekend on May 22-25. The lineup consists of all sorts of artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin, Modest Mouse, Lana Del Rey, Tame Impala, Flume, Schoolboy Q and many more. Sasquatch has something for everybody so it's going to attract all sorts of people.
Bonnaroo.
The next recommendation I have for music lovers is Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee on June 11-14th. Here is another lineup consisting of several unique artists such as Billy Joel, Mumford & Sons, Kendrick Lamar, Childish Gambino, Hozier, Bassnectar, Earth Wind & Fire and several more.
California Roots Music and Arts Festival.
My last option is not just for reggae fans, but they would appreciate this one the most. California Roots Music and Arts Festival takes place on May 22-24 in Monterey, California. Cali Roots is hosting artists such as Soja, Slightly Stoopid, Iration, Cypress Hill, The Dirty Heads and more.
I am just naming a few, but there are several other music festivals during the year that you could attend instead of Coachella and have just as much fun. Of course, Coachella would be an unbelievable experience, but I'm sure you can find several of your favorite artists performing at a different festival near you.
