"Game of Thrones"' season six episode eight, "No One," not only had to do with finding one's identity (something everyone can connect with), but with many other themes and lessons we can relate to in our own lives (albeit not as extreme in circumstance like the show). Here are the three lessons we relearned last week from "Game of Thrones."
(SPOILERS...duh)
1.) Friendship is the key.
Even though Arya and Lady Crane have interacted only a handful of times, their connection to each other is strong (saving each other's lives tends to have that effect). Here we are reminded of how true friends can do favors for each other without thinking twice about potential repercussions.
RIP Lady Crane, a true homie.
Speaking of true homies, Jaime and Brienne's friendship has blossomed quite unconventionally. Although Jaime appeared at first as if he was going to alert the guards in Riverrun about Brienne and Pod escaping, he decided against it. Another example of how important friendship can be when times are tough.
2.) People are gray, not black and white.
We know Jaime has done some terrible things in the name of his love for Cersei, but if you take away the gross incestouous part of their relationship, what he is fighting for can relate to many people. Wouldn't you do anything to get back to the one you loved? Jaime's story arc is particularly interesting as it highlights his rollercoaster of a journey so far. We start from hating him, to rooting for him, to hating him again; and now, we're not so sure anymore.
3.) All work? More play!
In the midst of stressing over politics in Meereen, Tyrion helps Missandei and Grey Worm let loose for once. The main takeaway here is that if you are under a lot of stress, it is important to let off some steam whichever way you can. Watch something funny or crack a joke like Meereen's new three musketeers did!
All in all, while what we watch on the big or small screen may be fictional, the themes and ideas featured here draw from the realities of our world, and it's definitely something worth paying attention to in whichever TV show or film you watch next.
