Whenever I flip through the various news stations, it seems as if all of them are reporting the same sad stories. Watching or listening to the news every day, this made me extremely upset. I mean, it would be hard to believe that hearing all of these negative stories doesn't put a damper on our overall well-being. When all that is being reported are stories of people dying, crimes being committed, and just negative messages all around, it is so easy to think that all of society is just, well, bad these days. However, I sometimes come across stories that make me believe that society isn't so bad after all. I thought I would share some of my favorite ones to brighten up everyone's day. Because while it may be so easy to think negatively about the world, not everyone and everything is miserable.

1) Florida Bar Removes Famous Dollar Bill Decor to Collect $15,000 for Hurricane Dorian Relief

I came across this story on MSN.com and it truly amazed me. The Siesta Key Oyster Bar in Sarasota, Florida is where this great act of humanity was shown. For years, this bar has been using dollar bills as decor, stapling them to the wall, the ceiling, columns, and any bare inch. After Hurricane Dorian made horrendous landfall on the Bahamas, the workers at the oyster bar knew they needed to do something to help. This act of pure kindness is truly inspiring and teaches everyone to show kindness to anyone and everyone.

2) Two Homecoming Queens

Originally coming across a video of this story on Facebook, I knew I had to find out more. At a Texas high school, the winning teen, Trinity Arrington, was shocked to hear her name being called as the winner. Emily Petty, her opponent and a teen with down syndrome, was given the homecoming queen crown by Trinity. The girls, who became best friends a year before, walked hand in hand as they both became homecoming queens together. This act of kindness teaches acceptance and shows us to always spread love.

3) Teen Holds Birthday Parties for Homeless Children

In California, Tanvi Barman gives up her weekends to host birthday parties for homeless children. She holds birthday parties for these children whom some have never had a birthday party before. Her project grew and is now called No Birthday Left Behind. She has hosted more than 45 birthday celebrations and is nowhere close to being finished with her movement. This act of kindness and service should inspire us all to give back to the community and share our own fortunes with the world.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
