Some mental disorders are common and known by all. But some, like the ones below, are out in left field and uncommon to have. Here three crazy mental disorders you've probably never heard of.
1. Paris Syndrome.
This one tops the list for being totally bizarre. This only affects people of Eastern Asian origins, typically Japanese, when they visit Paris. They have major mental breakdowns, resulting in panic attacks almost throughout their visit to this famous capital. This typically affects very few of them, however, and isn't usually a cause for concern. It has been noted that this could be due to major culture shock, considering Paris is considerably different than Japan, China, or India. This could also be that these people have such a high expectation for the famous city and they are not pleased with the reality. But why is it only in Paris? Who knows, but it's now a diagnosed disorder!
2. Alien Hand Syndrome.
This has got to be one of the creepiest ones out there. A neurological disorder as well as a psychological one, it affects your life in a big way. The person's arm suddenly does things on its own. If it passes a person, it could reach out to shake it. Walking by doors results in this hand trying to open it. You still maintain control of it, but not all the time when it does these weird impulses. It often results in the person thinking the arm is not their own, and that it has been replaced by an alien hand! A lot of cases are seen where the person tries to amputate said arm, whether by themselves or with a doctor's help. They'd rather see their foreign hand off than live with it, because not being in total control of your arm would definitely be creepy.
3. Synesthesia.
Synesthesia is a mental disorder that you're born with and it sticks with you for life. It happens when stimulation of one of your senses automatically triggers one of your other senses. People with synesthesia have a wide range of different ways this comes out. A common one is associating each letter and number with a color, but it also can be varied such as hearing sounds when raindrops fall, seeing the words that people are saying, as well as various others. This disorder usually isn't serious, though there have been cases where it's been serious enough to treat. There are tons of books, fiction and nonfiction, that explain the lives of people living with it. It's fascinating to research, because it has so many variations!
