We’ve all been there. Sitting in class texting, or reading, or writing or doing anything that wasn’t related to class. I know I have and I’m positive everyone else has. School has taught me so many things with relation to subjects, but it has also taught me so much more in regards to things that are needed outside of class. Here are things that my friends have said that they learned from high school outside of the classroom.

1. “I learned, that as a short girl, shoes with a loud heel will part hallways like the Red Sea and I won't be tripped on. The clicking makes kids like: crap, an adult with authority! And they just move!! It was great. #confidence” – Emma W.

2. “People will look at you weirdly if you and your friends link arms and walk down the hallway.” – Colleen D.

3. “Don’t take it personally if someone is rude to you—they probably are just jealous.” – Karen B.

4. “I learned how to study the correct way.” – Rebecca M.

5. “Procrastination leads to desperate creativity and sometimes the best ideas.” – Andi J.

6. “I learned the importance of time management lolol.” – Carmen C.

7. “Do not trust anyone during group projects. Always have a backup prepared.” – Andi J.

8. “I learned that I could write a paper in an hour and still get an A on it.” – Karen B.

9. “’kill them with kindness’ - my mother” – Lloyd B.

10. “Just because you’re weird in school or weird in general does not mean it's a bad thing you just have a different perspective.” – Blake L.

11. “Have someone else edit your paper for typos and odd words.” – Andi J.

12. “Free food and free t shirts will (most of the time) motivate people to do anything.” – Emma W.

13. “Time management, how to manage large groups of people, how to build an 11 foot Eiffel Tower base, everything that comes with show choir, how to build a barricade (Les Mis)” – Bri P.

14. “The importance of calling your parents every now and then (and not to ask for money)” – Sarah D.

15. “Don't get caught up in drama... It won't matter soon anyways.” – Andi J.

16. “How to have only like $5 in your bank account and stretch that out until your next paycheck” – Charlsley C.

17. “I learned that they don't teach you how to kick a soccer ball in gym - only the social problems that come with missing it altogether lol” – Lloyd B.

18. “How to balance a check book and not go into debt.” – Blake L.

19. “The only thing that popped into my head was all my dress code violations for tight t shirts tanks and skirts that weren't even short.... oh and my high heels once. Because I had curves in hs. And how to do my makeup in the bathroom with my friends. And text under the desk or in my pocket. T9.” – Rheannon H.

20. “Do not do your homework at home. Do it at school- during lunch, in your car, in the library, or even the back of a hallway, it will help you focus.” – Andi J.

21. “Bowling For Soup's Song 'High School Never Ends' is 110% accurate.” – Emma W.

22. “Respect. Something I wish I could have learned, or struggled with learning, was how to make friends and keep them.” – Hailey H.

23. “Don't sweat the small stuff.” – Andi J.

24. “School also didn't teach me to laugh at myself, to learn from my mistakes, or to be confident.” – Lloyd B.

25. “Pack your bag or car the night before to prevent forgetting something in the morning.” – Andi J.

26. “There's a slam poetry piece about this on YouTube I thoroughly enjoy. School taught me that some of the people you can trust the most are the ones standing at the front of the classroom, though they can be really intimidating sometimes. Also, it taught me how to sneak food and candy into situations it wouldn't normally be appropriate without anyone batting an eye.” – Amanda G.

27. "Hard work pays off." - Matt B.

28. “Oh, I think it was mostly not pretending to be friends with somebody if we weren't or picking the "cool kids" last or ignoring them all together. I think I was a pretty passive aggressive person with those I didn't like in high school” – Lloyd B.

29. “No matter what you are going through, what program you didn't make, how tired you are, or how stressed you are, it's going to be okay and you will make it through it.” – Andi J.

When we look back on our high school or college years, we will be more inclined to remember things that weren't taught to us in the classroom. We will remember our friends, who the cool kids were, how they dressed, how we dressed, the way people viewed us, the late nights we had constantly, the teachers who were great, the teachers who were awful, the cool places to hang out after football games, how it felt to lose a good friend, how it felt to gain a friend and how you valued yourself.

This particular slam poem is astounding. I would try to put into words the impact it had on me, but it would all be for naught so I'm just going to leave it here and let you watch it and let it impact you. Everyone has something to say about (high) school and that is okay.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
