Believe it or not, my original idea for this article was how to get back into gear for the school year here at Wake. I was going to write about how new Post-It notes help me stay organized and on top of my studies among other things.
However, I am currently residing in procrastination station and I know I am not the only one. Getting the discipline and willpower to wake up early on a Sunday when people are still coming home from going out is incredibly difficult (I absolutely give props to these people, if they do in fact exist). What makes getting your already huge mountains of work done even more challenging is the transition from summer to school.
With syllabus week over (one of the best weeks of the year in my humble opinion), now is the time for the overnight sleepovers in the ZSR, constant caffeine diet, and cranking out work to meet deadlines that sneak up on us. But what if we aren’t ready for this 180-degree turn from just worrying about how tan we are to how am I going to write a case report on operations management? I know I certainly am not. With this in mind, I have compiled a list of 25 ways to procrastinate, all while getting stuff. Have fun postponing, my friends:
- Make your bed. But seriously, it’s oddly satisfying.
- Built a fort.
- Do a load of laundry. Or five.
- Stalk yourself on Facebook. Who knows? You may come across some duck faced photos you NEED to get ride of.
- Go spin/run/swim/whatever you need to get some endorphins going.
- Go to Krispy Kreme. (One of my personal favorites.)
- Call your mom/dad and catch them up on your week. Call your grandparents if you’re really inclined.
- Rearrange your room.
- Clean your room. You know that drawer you just throw everything into and are too scared to see what’s in it? Time to clean that black hole out.
- Work on your British accent. It could come in handy one day.
- Clean out your car. Dude, clean out that banana peel and half sandwich.
- Watch a documentary on Netflix. These are semi-educational, right?
- Write out a list of everything you need to get done. It will make you calmer, and you'll feel like you’ve already accomplished something.
- Watch some episodes of your favorite TV show from high school. Grey’s Anatomy anyone?
- Go through your old Instagrams and order prints of some to hang in your room.
- Bake cookies.
- Think about next weekend and how you will be WAY more productive then.
- Doodle some possible tattoo ideas. Or just doodle.
- Write a list of the top the things you're thankful for.
- Watch a Ted Talk--you’ll definitely learn something cool.
- Relive some high school glory days.
- Take out your trash. Nobody wants to smell that. Nobody.
- Listen to the Top 10 Songs in iTunes.
- Floss your teeth.
- Go grocery shopping and buy something you’ve never heard of for fun.
