Ah, the "sic 'em."

The sic 'em is one of Baylor's most iconic trademarks. While other schools have hand signs (like that ugly horned frog sign that some schools make — like honestly, what is that?), the sic 'em is definitely the most iconic. Everyone at Baylor knows how to throw one, as we were taught at orientation that throwing a sic 'em is as easy as these simple steps:

1. Make a bear claw (that should fit around your knee-cap)

2. Raise it in the air, shake it

3. Throw it down into your opponent's chest cavity, rip out their heart, and raise it to Jesus because we're a Baptist university.

Seriously, this is taught to incoming freshman at orientation, and it's honestly awesome. The sic 'em is seen around campus, in dorms, and I have even thrown a few in the library. This hand gesture can be used to express a variety of emotions, and it has now become my favorite catchphrase and gesture.

So, here are 25 times when it's appropriate to throw a sic 'em.

1. Every play of every football game. Ever.

2. At basketball tip-off.

3. At almost every major sporting event.

4. During Line Camp and Welcome Week.

5. When your Starbucks' barista refuses to give you your drink until you throw a sic 'em.

6. When your friends and you find out you have chapel together.

7. After getting back a test that you totally aced.

8. When your 8 a.m. gets canceled.

9. After getting back a test you totally failed.

10. After you make it through the long ID swipe lines at chapel.

11. When Miss Mei makes a fresh tray of cookies.

12. After you register for classes.

13. After you get into all the classes you wanted with the professors you wanted.

14. After getting into the classes you needed with professors you've never heard of.

15. When you find out your midterm is a take home.

16. When you make it through a semester.

17. When you land a tortilla when you go tortilla tossing.

18. After you see Sing for the first time.

19. During your first all-nighter.

20. The morning after your first all-nighter.

21. The last day of classes for the semester.

22. In the middle of Fountain Mall as a tour group passes through.

23. In the middle of the dining hall after chapel lets out.

24. When you pass all your classes.

25. When you graduate.

* * *

Honestly, there are so many times when you should throw a sic 'em, and these are just a few. So take my advice, and throw a sic 'em every chance you get!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
