No matter how old you get, you're always looking forward to summer vacation. Three to four months of simply hanging out with friends, sometimes working and relaxing. But at a certain point, you find yourself slipping into a repetitive routine. Revisiting old childhood haunts and spending time on the couch can get old pretty quickly, as I've started to learn. So here's a 25 item bucket list that'll get you out of the house and out of your rut.
1. Have a picnic.
2. Check out your local parks.
3. Go berry picking.
4. Take a trip to the beach.
5. Try geocaching.
Geocaching is essentially just a massive, international treasure hunt. You download the app, and it guides you towards small, camouflaged boxes that have some sort of trinket inside. Take a trinket and replace it with one of your own, or just geocache for the thrill of it.
6. Run into the rain on purpose.
7. Find a local planetarium.
8. Go to an aquarium.
9. Bike through your city.
10. Concert roulette.
Find the calendars for local concert venues and buy a cheap ticket to the show of a performer/band you've never heard. Don't listen to the music before seeing the show. Sure it's risky because you might not like the band. But ultimately, it's exciting and you might just find your new favorite artist.
11. Read at a local coffee shop.
12. Karaoke with friends.
13. Check out your county/state fair.
14. Watch the sunrise and sunset.
15. Sleep outside in some capacity.
Okay, so you don't have to buy anything off of SkyMall. But find some friends and a place to sleep outdoors, whether it's a campground, your backyard, or a trampoline.
16. Take a dance class.
17. Watch an outdoor movie.
18. Water balloon fight.
19. Make fruity ~non-alcoholic~ drinks.
20. Star gaze.
Lying outside looking up at the stars can be a surreal experience no matter how old you are. This site can help you find the places near you with the least light pollution.
21. Visit the zoo.
22. Volunteer with local organizations.
23. Go on a hike.
24. Tie dye an item of clothing.
25. Buy a vintage/disposable film camera to document your adventures.
Nowadays, we're so used to being able to snap hundreds of photos of whatever you please. But with a film camera, you have to be selective about the moments worth capturing. And when you finally get the prints it feels like you get to experience it all over again. Not to mention a lot of older cameras and films will give your photos a nostalgic vignette effect.
26. Add things to your bucket list that are specific to your city.
If you manage to do everything on this bucket list, you're sure to have a memorable summer!
