Long Island. It's the 118 mile long island (see what I did there?) that looks like a fish that we call home. It should really be it's own state because let's face it, anything past Manhattan is "upstate" and we all know that's not really New York.
For those that leave our sheltered island, you know that life is very different from what we are so used to. And for those that don't get a chance to leave, especially in their college years? There is a very good chance that you're never leaving.
Ever.
How do you know you are a true "Long Islander?"
1. A bagel and iced tea is the breakfast of champions.
2. You live ON Long Island, not IN Long Island.
3. You know that the South Shore and North Shore are two completely different worlds.
4. As are Nassau and Suffolk County. What's with the no sidewalks, Suffolk?
5. During your first summer as "21," you probably went to Boardy Barn and regretted it
6. You don't realize you have the "Lawn Guy Land" accent until you leave and literally every person points it out.
8. Sweet 16's are really a semi-smaller wedding, so the parties on My Super Sweet 16 didn't seem too ridiculous to you.
9. You're very protective of "your beach". #TOBAY
10. It's The City. Not Manhattan or New York.
11. Everyone's parents grew up in Brooklyn or Queens.
12. Non-Long Islander's will ALWAYS ask if you know the Long Island Medium.
13. Even if you aren't really a fan, you love Billy Joel.
14. Every summer is spent on a boat and in Montauk.
15. It was a crappy night out if you didn't end up at a diner.
16. You've had to say "No, I'm not from Jersey" to outsiders WAY more than you should ever have to.
17. You wanna punch people when they call Italian ice's "water ice's".
18. Your first concert was either at Nassau Coliseum or Jones Beach Theater.
19. If you've ever gotten stuck on a train going to Penn Station where you had to change at Jamaica, it was your worst nightmare.
