Mother's Day is right around the corner and it's all about moms. All kinds of moms. Moms who gave birth to you. Mom's who raised you. Dad's who play the role of mom. Really anyone who is like a mother to you. These things apply to all those people. It doesn't have to be a holiday for me to thank my mom but here are a few things I want her to know I'm thankful for this Mother's Day.

1. Thank you for carrying me around for 9 months.

Without you I wouldn't even be here.

2. Thank you for dressing me in (mostly) adorable outfits.

I love looking at adorable baby pictures and seeing my mostly cute (some not so cute) outfits.

3. Thank you for tucking me in every night.

I always have great memories filled with bedtime stories and cuddles.

4. Thank you for always having my back.

I know you always have my back no matter what. You're honestly one of my best friends.

You always just know the right things to say.

10. And of course for listening to me rant and vent.

You're a great listener and I can always go to you with all of my problems.

11. Thank you for dealing with my tantrums.

I know I was the kid who threw lots tantrums in public and for that I am very sorry.

12. And my moodiness too.

I may have been a tough kid but I know I can be a tough adult too.

You're my biggest fan and my greatest supporter.

Because of you I always say please and thank you and I am as polite as possible. I was raised right.

17. And forgiving too.

I know sometimes things can be tough but your ability to forgive always makes things easier.

18. Thank you for cooking dinner every single night.

I know sometimes it keep seem like it's expected but you always make sure we're fed even now in adulthood and I am very grateful for that.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
