My dad has five brothers, six stepbrothers, and two stepsisters. My mom has four sisters and a brother. Me? I'm an only child and I'm proud of it. Having no siblings has its perks, but it definitely has its downfalls as well. If you relate to any of these, you're probably an only child (possibly suffering from only child syndrome):
1. You’re told you have an old soul (mostly because you were forced to be around adults as a child).
2. You are content with being alone.
3. Actually, you prefer to be alone.
4. You aren’t competitive because you never really needed to be.
5. You’ve never been able to place the blame on anyone else in your house when you’ve done something wrong.
6. You’re spoiled but grateful for everything you have.
7. You aren’t so good at sharing.
8. Especially when it comes to attention.
9. You’re a little sensitive because you never had a sibling to pick on you.
10. You’re tired of people asking you what your sources of entertainment were as a child.
11. You have an imagination like none other because that’s what you had to rely on when you were a kid.
12. Your cousins, friends, and pets are the closest things you have to siblings.
13. Part of you always wanted a sibling.
14. But another part of you is grateful that you don’t have one.
15. You are weirdly close with your parents.
16. Frankly, you aren’t sure how your parents are surviving without you at home when you go off to school.
17. Going to school was a rough transition because you had to share your things and personal space.
18. Your house is filled with pictures of you to the point where it’s a little embarrassing.
19. You have a special bond with other only children.
20. You know why you’re an only child because your parents explained to you why they didn’t give you a sibling.
21. You constantly wonder what your siblings would look like if you had any.
22. You’re a little bummed out that you’ll never really be an aunt or an uncle.
23. You wouldn’t trade being an only child for the world.
