They say if a friendship exceeds 7 years, it will last a lifetime.
This statistic seems reasonable. If after 7 years, your best friend learns all your weird habits, knows your secrets, and has seen some of your not-so-shining moments and still accepts you for the hot mess you tend to be, she's a keeper. I'm lucky enough to have several friendships that have lasted almost my entire life. No matter how much time has passed or where life has taken us, we've always found our way back to each other.
There are so many big reasons to thank them, but even more little reasons that I often forget about.
1. For always being down to get food, even midnight trips to McDonald’s
2. For always being there, no matter how far apart we live
3. For accepting all of my weird habits, and semi-regular lack of common sense
4. For helping me get through the most awkward stages of my life…most of which are still happening.
5. For holding my hand and dancing with me when we leave the bar
6. For holding my hand in general, because sometimes the moment just calls for it
7. For making me feel like part of your family
8. For embracing my embarrassing dance moves, finger guns and all
9. For always telling me if I look like a trash bag before going somewhere
10. For pushing me to do a little extra at the gym, no matter how many times I tell you I hate you
11. For always treating our time together like it’s only been days, not months, since we’ve seen each other
12. For knowing every 90’s and early 2000’s song in existence and being ready to jam in the car at a moment’s notice
13. For the constant texts, Snapchats, e-mails, and messages reminding me that “I got this” on the days that I most certainly do not have it.
14. For advising me that I don’t need to take another shot, but tossing one back with me anyway
15. For all the 7 a.m. phone calls saying “come over” for the past 15 years or so
16. For understanding that the majority of our conversations will start or end with “Don’t judge me but…”
17. For all the screenshotted, double-chinned, ugly-as-sin Snapchats that will never see the light of ANY social media platform
18. For accepting my sassy attitude, and usually giving me a run for my money
19. For always being ready to binge-watch Friends even though we’ve seen it at least 10 times over
20. For always making sure I get home safe and dropping subtle life-threats to anyone offering to be my designated driver
21.For telling me when my eyeliner is smudged or foundation needs blending
22. For pulling me out of my comfort zone, even when it requires dragging and some temper tantrums
23. For staying my best friend through arguments, engagements, weddings, babies, breakups, everything in between and everything still to come.
