One Tree Hill is a television show that will always captivate my heart. How else could I have watched nine seasons in three months? It was really easy due to its heart wrenching story lines, unexpected musicians (hello Kid Cudi), and one particularly incredible Nathan Scott. If you aren't familiar with OTH, hopefully the numerous life lessons it taught me will give insight to just how depraved you are of the amazing little town that is Tree Hill.
1. It’s family over everything. The Scott brothers went from two half-brothers who couldn’t stand the sight of each other to teaching us what it means to truly have each others backs.
3. There is no set age to when you become an ‘adult’. Nathan and Haley became parents while they were in high school. Sometimes you have to grow up faster than you ever thought you would have to.
4. You don’t have to be who you were in high school. Brooke went from being a young girl who only cared about getting wasted to building
5. Your art matters. The overarching theme of OTH. When Lucas first told Peyton this it really touched my heart because sometimes all we need is to be told is just that: your art matters. You matter. We see this with Lucas and his writing,
6. You never know what’s going to happen. Sometimes you might wake up to Pete Wentz from Fall Out Boy making you pancakes in a cabin.
7. Learn to say “no” without explaining yourself. Thank
8. You can experience many different loves in a lifetime, and that’s okay. Appreciate the moments and move on. (I still love
9. Don’t take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
10. If a cute boy ever asks you to tutor him, say yes. Teach yourself on the subject later if that’s what it takes, you might get married a season later. Just saying.
11. You are more than what people label you as. What other people think of you is none of your business.
13. But love is high-key the trickiest game in the business.
14. Sometimes bad things happen to good people, and sometimes it doesn’t make any sense. Although it may be difficult to face the fact that sometimes things happen that are out of our hands, we can be confident in knowing we grow stronger from every hardship. So smile and let everyone know that today, you’re a lot stronger than you were yesterday.
15. If everyone can forgive Dan Scott for probably being the worst guy in the world, I can forgive my sister for borrowing my shirt without asking. When you forgive, you heal and when you heal you grow. It’s okay Hannah, I forgive you.
16. When you are having a bad day, remind yourself who you are.
17. Zero is not a size. “Anorexia is a disease, it is not a fashion statement.” One Tree Hill was innovative in discussing extremely important topics such as eating disorders, drug abuse, suicide, depression and teen pregnancy.
18. We never know just what someone is battling behind closed doors so be kind.
19. Dreams don’t work unless you do. I’m sure every heart in America was broken when we saw what became of Nathan after his injury. But him being Nathan Royal Scott, he didn’t make himself a product of his situation but rather worked hard to come back better than ever. (Love you forever).
20. People get lost when they think happiness is a destination. As Julian so eloquently said “Happiness is a mood, it’s a condition, it’s not a destination. It’s like being tired or hungry, it’s not permanent. It comes and goes and that’s okay. I think if people thought about it that way, they’d find happiness a lot more often.
21. You never know when someone is falling in love with you! “I love you. I’m in love with you. I’m so lost and completely in love with you. I have ever since I saw you doing that ridiculous Molly Ringwald dance.”
22. The trouble is, you think you have all the time in the world but the truth is, it goes by faster than we can even imagine.
23. Chad Michael Murray may have killed the best ship in television history because he had to cheat on Sophia Bush with Paris Hilton. Still salty. #brucasforever
