Fired Up may not be a classic cheerleading movie, but it's a cheerleading movie and that means I and probably every other cheerleader has seen it and critiqued it for its representation of the cheerleading tradition. Here are just some of the thoughts we, as cheerleaders, have watching this film.

1. Wow. Five minutes in and already our first illegal stunt.

2. Who the heck goes to a three-week cheerleading camp?

3. Nobody actually calls stunts by all those technical names.

4. And why isn’t their coach going with them?

5. Okay, all these girls with tattoos are going to have to cover them up.

6. Why are mascots at cheer camp?

7. Well, those are the nicest bunks I’ve ever seen at a cheer camp.

8. They seriously just do an introduction and then go to bed? Ha!

9. You do not get this much free time. And if you do, you spend it practicing.

10. Okay, why do people think cheerleaders live off of salads? We need protein, people!

11. Since when do you get to drive off with your boyfriend at cheer camp?

12. They’re seriously staying up to skinny dip when they have to get up at five the next morning?

13. They never work on tumbling or jumps at this camp.

14. Finally, time for the competition.

15. This is all so illegal.

16. Okay, you can hardly breathe during a routine, let alone talk.

17. Oh, lord, the “Fountain of Troy” (that’s not a real thing, in case anyone didn’t know).

18. Okay, this doesn’t look as impossible as I thought it would.

19. And I was wrong.

20. Oh my god, did they just say back flip. Cheerleaders do not say back flip.

21. That was not a triple “back flip”. That was a double back to a tuck. Jeez, were no cheerleaders working on this movie.

22. Whatever, it’s still one of my faves.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
