I just moved to the city almost three weeks ago and it has been the experience of a life time. No matter if you live in the city or somwhere nearby, this is place to come adventure. From trying new restaurants to shopping and spending time outside, Atlanta has endless opportunities for a great summer day in the city. Below I have compiled a list of my favorite things to do in the city for the summer!
1. Piedmont Park
Whether you are wanting to have a picnic or go for a run, Piedmont Park has it all. From dog parks, to tennis clubs and a driving range - it is the perfect place to relax on a summer day.
2. Beltline
If you're an active person, then this is the choice for you. You can ride your bike, go for a run or a nice walk while enjoying the graffiti and local musicians playing along the beltline.
3. Ponce City Market
No matter what you are looking to do, Ponce probably has it. From restaurants, to bars or shopping. If you're in the mood several different types of food, go to Ponce City Market and one if sure to curve the craving. They also have a number of shops, bars and other cool places to spend your money. Also, you can get to PCM directly from the beltline.
4. Westside Provisions
If you like nice restaurants, good shopping and unique bars - then take some time to go visit the Westside Provisions area. From brunch, to quality clothing stores, elegant restaurants and popular bars - Westside Provisions has it all.
5. Little Five Points
Little Five is pretty much a world of it's own. Housing some of the most interesting places I know, you will for sure be entertained in this neighborhood. They have everything in Little Five. Clothing stores, antiques and consignment, hole in the wall bars, crazy shops and great food - Little Five won't disappoint with their unique atmosphere.
6. Bar/Restaurant Hop
Being in the city gives you endless options for some of the best dining and bar experiences. No matter the area that you are in, you can most likely find a cool place that is so unique in it's own way.
7. Aquarium
If you love acting like a tourist in your own city, then this is one of the places you need to make a stop at. I mean who doesn't want to interact with adorable marine life for a few hours?
8. World of Coke
Being from Atlanta, the Coca-Cola capital, this is something that everyone must experience. Inside they have a tour to explain the history and other fun facts as well, but the best part by far is the end when you get to taste every product that is produced by their company. Some are amazing and others will probably make you want to throw up but this experience is definitely something that you don't want to miss. Located in the heart of downtown Atlanta near many other attractions, this interactive museum can be one of many stops in a day.
9. Zoo
There isn't much convincing that needs to be done here. I mean who doesn't want to spend several hours looking at adorable exotic wildlife? I sure do.
10. Botanical Gardens
No matter the time of the year, Botanical Gardens has something to offer. If you love nature and art then this is for sure the perfect combination for you.
11. Edgewood
Going out for a night with your friends? Edgewood is home to some well known, very unique bars such as Church and Joy Stick. These bars bring a new scene to the table that everyone needs to experience at least once.
12. Buckhead
If you are looking for a night of fun and bar hopping then you need to go to Buckhead. With a large amount of fun bars located off of Roswell Road in Buckhead, this is the place for college kids to spend their nights having too much fun.
13. Braves Game
Even though they aren't really good right now, there isn't anything quite like going to a Braves game with a group of friends and having a blast. Start off with a tailgate in the lots a few hours before game time, go inside a little late and just have some fun. Baseball fan or not, this is a tradition that everyone must participate in. Especially since this is the last season at our beloved Turner Field.
14. Music, Art and Food Festivals
Just about every weekend there is some sort of festival going on. They range of a very large scale from free to a nice form of compensations. No matter what, these kinds of things are always fun.
15. Drive-In Movie
Located right off of Moreland Avenue, the famous drive-in movie theater from the new Footloose. Bring a date to the city, prepare a meal or snacks, blankets and pillows - and get yourself to the drive-in for a perfect romantic summer night. Or just go with your friends and have some drinks, thats just as much fun.
16. High Museum of Art
If you're interested in art and seeing some really cool exhibits, then make your way downown to the High for a nice afternoon in the city.
17. Fernbank
Do you like to learn? Head down to the Fernbank Museum and check out some pretty cool things.
18. CNN Center
CNN center offers tours to the public so that they may see the actual news room and bathroom breaks. If you're just in the heart of the city and get pretty hungry, then head over to CNN and you will have endless options for lunch.
19. College Football Hall of Fame
If you like sports and new experiences, then the College Football Hall of Fame will give you a chance to be involved in an interactional exhibit.
20. Atlantic Station
Even though the vibe is completely different, the atmosphere is completely updated and absolutely amazing. This place has everything, literally. From a theater to stores and restaurants.
21. Breweries
While we are home to several local breweries, it just doesn't get better than spending a little time at a brewery exploring just about everything they have to offer.
22. Krog Street Market
Home to many different things, this is truly an amazing place to eat or explore.
