1. "One More Chance" by Ira Wolf
Ira has sort of an Ingrid Michaelson, Brandi Carlile, Vanessa Carlton kind of vibe. Lots of tight harmony, guitar picking and luscious piano chords.
2. "Out of Reach" by Vihelm Lizell
This is an electronic goody. It is a great driving song or even a great song to dance like a robot to. It is upbeat, yet as chill as a popsicle. Also, the album cover has a city in a tree, so that’s pretty rad.
3. "Wonderwall" by Ryan Adams
The original song may be 10 years old now, but Ryan Adams’ rendition is a little more lethargic and smoky. Oldie but definitely still a goodie.
4. "Electric Love" by BØRNS
A super upbeat tune with variations in the background beats and sound add-ins. It is definitely alternative pop… beautiful alternative pop. Ultimately just a feel good song.
5. "Above The Clouds of Pompeii" by Bear’s Den
This song starts out in a sort of mysterious way and then leads into a beautiful guitar picked melody. The voices are comfortably warm and the lyrics are so inspiring. This song was played for the first time in the back of a tour van on the band’s first tour. Thank goodness it made it to the recording studio.
6. "Sad" by Maroon 5
This Adam Levine ballad is raw and pretty chill compared to most of their radio party jams. It is pretty sad as you might infer from the title, but very beautifully so.
7. "Good Thing" by Sam Smith
If you were to close your eyes during the beginning of this song, you might imagine yourself at a grand theatre listening to a symphony. Then it abruptly transitions to an acoustic guitar and Sam’s angelic voice. I don’t know, I just love this song and could listen to it on repeat for hours.
8. "I Found" (Acoustic Version) by Amber Run
Acoustic versions are always beautiful. My friend once told me that she cries to this song every time she hears it, she’s not really sure why. Give it a listen, you might cry too.
9. "Blue Velvet" by Lana Del Rey
A 1950s song revitalized by the smoothest female voice of this generation (in my opinion). Lana is just so sultry and her cool lower register just makes the song so velvety.
10. "In Your Arms" by Chef’special
A peppy love song that makes you want to dance around with a full belly of picnic food in a field with someone you love.
11. "Snaggletooth" by Vance Joy
Who doesn’t love Vance? This song is so cute. It sends such a sneakily sweet message about loving imperfections. The middle of the song changes course a little and just pulls you deeper into a Vance trance.
12. "Dark Blue" by Jack’s Mannequin
Andrew McMahon is the man. Ever heard of Cecilia and the Satellite? The cutest song ever that was written about his baby daughter. That is this guy. He’s a cancer survivor whose songs deserve so much more attention and recognition than they are given. This song is so powerful and just moves so gracefully into a wonderful piano melody. I’ve seen him in concert once as Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness and I get to see him again and I simply cannot wait! Listen to the rest of his stuff—you will not regret it.
13. "Losin Control" by Russ
To be honest, this kind of sounds like it would be a Drake song. It's all electronic with beats from a drum pad to keep it moving along. It's a good late-night drive song.
14. "Two Weeks" by Grizzly Bear
This song is slower, but jam packed with background harmonies, various drum beats and alternative goodness.
15. "Higher" by Rihanna
The beginning of this song reminds me of Leonardo DiCaprio. Not really sure why, but it just has that vibe. I’m upset that this song is literally only two minutes, but that is all Ri needs to captivate you with her honest lyrics and powerful pipes.
16. "Lua" by Bright Eyes
If you’re having a bad day or night, just go in your car and blast this through your brain. It is beautiful and will help you cry out everything you’ve been holding in. It is kind of eerie-sad but so lovely and heartfelt.
17. "Unsteady" by X-Ambassadors
One time I watched the X-Ambassadors on a side stage at Summerfest and I didn’t even know it. I now wish that I had known it. They are freakin’ amazing and you should also listen to the rendition they did with a symphony for the movie "Me Before You," which you should also watch. This song is crazy full of emotion and you just want to yell it out, or at least I do.
18. "Together" by Brandon & Leah
Okay, okay, yes. These people are Jenners and have relation to the Kardashians, but they really do make sweet and confident music. This song is soft and lovely, and it makes you want to cuddle up on a rainy day and play this entire five-song album in the background.
19. "Dangerous Woman" by Ariana Grande
Honestly, I never really liked Ari. Only because I had seen her on that one Disney show or whatever and did not like her high weird sort of voice. I still think that she’s giving into the pop industry too much because she has an amazing voice that would sound so incredible on it is own without all of the editing and electronic stuff. But I really enjoy this song and at one point the harmony she sings is like….out of this world.
20. "Ocean" (Stripped Acoustic Version) by Andreas Moe
I watched an interpretive dance to this song and immediately fell in love with it. That is all. Now you try and interpretive dance to this song.
21. "All The Pretty Girls" by Kaleo
The guitar in this song makes me swoon. Kaleo sometimes reminds me of Hozier but with multiple voice layers. This song is a beaut. So soft airy compared to some of their other songs. I love it.
22. "Slow Motion" by PHOX
I had the privilege of seeing these great humans live. They’re quirky and wonderful. Also, they’re indie pop creations originated in Baraboo, Wisconsin, and since I live in Wisconsin, I might be biased toward these bright, musically inclined people. This song has a range of instruments and Monica Martin’s voice is like butter and sugar blended into the best frosting you’ve ever tasted.
