Another year older means another year wiser. There's a sense of maturity that enters our heads as soon as the number two is associated with the first digit of our age. No longer being considered a teenager, but in your 20s, is a rite of passage of sorts.
Turning 20 begins a new decade of life and a fresh start as well. You are no longer that brand new adult and hopefully have a bit of maturity under your belt. While this may be the case for some lets be real, the only thought process going through ones head for the most part is how close you are to turning 21 in exactly one more year.
Then, 21 hits you -- that magical age where the golden doors to nightlife open and a new world is ready to be conquered. For the most part this age is spent like expected, going out is no longer a risk and you now have to learn all the hotspots that weren't accessible to you before. The best feeling of it all though is when you're asked to show your ID and without missing a beat hand over your card in beaming pride that, yep, you're finally one of them.
And, now, a year passes by in a blur and you're suddenly 22. Without bringing up the repeated Taylor Swift lyrics about this stage of your life, what makes this age so special are the crazy and uncertain happenings the year will bring.
You are now near the end of your college career at a stage where some big decisions have to be made. Whether grad school, internships or applying for jobs are a must one things for sure, you grew up. Yes, you grow up every year you get older, but this time is different. You're no longer the young naïve freshmen who reference their year by being a junior by credits. You have finally decided on a major to focus on, you’ve become a pro at going out and are now looked up to by those in your college, clubs, and even in your house.
While it may seem silly to be proud of such accomplishments, it takes a lot of time to be sure of oneself and to be in the position you're in. You may not have all the answers and there's still so much more life to live but as your 22nd approaches go ahead and celebrate it with pride, you've earned it and may the year live up to your expectations and so much more.
