Spring break is a time to escape the textbooks, exams, ten-page papers and endless lectures that college students experience on a daily basis. Some go home. Some stay at school. Some visit their grandparents in Florida, where the comforts of life are within arms reach. A week living with G&G in their RV and I've come to one conclusion on grandparents: Can't live with them, can't live without them. So here's what grandparents are really for...
1. To make you the home cooked meals you love.
Seriously Grandma, is magic your secret ingredient?
2. To boost your self-esteem.
Even at your worst, they still think you're the best.
3. To instill little bits of wisdom into you.
They really seem to know something about everything, don't they?
4. To pull you out of the depths of your broke-ness.
The $1 they send you in the mail every month actually does make a difference.
5. To show you what true love looks like.
We can only dream of having a love that lasts like theirs.
6. To feed you more treats than you need.
Ice cream, cookies and candy every hour? I'm in!
7. To talk about their opinions for hours on end.
The Presidential election is probably their favorite topic.
8. And to be confident in almost everything they say.
It's understandable, they've lived long lives and seen a lot.
9. To crack jokes from the Stone Age.
I don't know what you just said, but it was hilarious.
10. To overly worry about you.
Don't even think about bringing up your eating habits.
11. To remind you of the generation they grew up in.
"You know, back in my day..."
12. To genuinely listen to the most boring aspects of your life with extreme interest.
Really Grandma and Grandpa, you don't have to pretend my life is cool.
13. To freely judge anything and everything they lay their eyes on.
"Kids these days..." Ever heard that one before?
14. To have a solution for every little problem a person could face.
Wardrobe malfunctions don't exist when Grandma's around.
15. To pass down the items you now furnish your home with.
Your collection may include coffee makers, rugs, a couch and a lamp.
16. To run into someone they know at every function they attend.
... and then to talk to them for what feels like hours.
17. To make your life easier.
They drive you places. They buy you food. They make your life 100% more bearable.
18. To recruit your technological expertise.
"Ok so, how do you take a picture?"
19. To out-tan you every day of the year.
If your grandparents are snowbirds, you know this struggle all to well.
20. To brag about you to every person on the planet.
Every waitress in their town probably knows your life story and everything you've accomplished.
21. To remind you that life DOES get better.
It may take 45 years, but the life of a retiree is the good life.
