21 Things I'm Thankful For My 21st Birthday.

My 21st birthday is coming up so here are a few of the things I'm thankful for!

1. Healthy Parents

I’m blessed that both of my parents don’t have major setbacks that have altered their way of living and that they are present with me each and every day whether together or miles apart I can always call them and they will be there always.

2. Good friendships

I have had people walk out of my life and new faces come into my life but whoever has stayed from the beginning is who means the most and I am an avid believer of whoever wants to stay in your life will do it, if they don’t that’s their own issue and you never needed them.

3. Learning to love myself

If you have read my other articles you know that accepting who I was, how I look, and other things was hard for me but I have never been happier with myself and I learned to accept and love who I am every single day because I was made how I am for a reason and everyone is beautiful in their own way.

4. Having a healthy dog!

Everyone around me knows my dog is my pride and joy so knowing that he is healthy and still running around like if he was a puppy is my favorite thing ever!

5. Finding use in my Faith

I have learned how to use the bible and bible study to make my everyday life a better day and finding joy in going to church with my mom makes me so happy!

6. Having a happy sister

My sister is newly married and I find peace knowing she lives in a beautiful place with my brother in law and that they are building a cute life together.

7. Traveling

I’m very thankful and blessed to be able to travel whenever I want and having a group of friends who are always down to travel and find new adventures and never say no for anything!

8. Having school

I am thankful to be able to be studying in the heart of the city and getting a degree to succeed in the world!

9. My sorority

I never knew how much a group of girls could impact my life but I have grown so much with all of them and I have so many girls I can count on which I never knew was possible In my life!

10. A roof over my head

As I get older I realize about the small things in my life that I take for granted I am so thankful to be living in a cute home with a roof over my head a bed to sleep in every night.

11. Professors

I never thought I would say this but I am thankful for all the professors I’ve had that have taught me different things about life and not just schooling that will help me one day in the real world and teaching me skills that will help me one day with my career.

12. My family in Mexico

My family in Mexico is so important to me because that’s where my roots come from and without them, I would not be the person I am today, whether it is my grandparents, my aunts, uncles and cousin – they all play an important role in my life.

13. My Cali family

I am thankful that my Big is Sam and that I have had the chance to be a part of her family because they are the most genuine kind hearted people that have ever come across in my 21 years of life, being around them fills me with such joy that I have no words to say thank you to them for making me happy!

14. My best friends Rachael and Natty and Vicki.

These girls have been my friends for over 6 years now and we always have a great time and have never gotten into major fights that have caused us to stop talking, they always say those who have been around the longest without leaving are the ones staying in your life until the end!

15. My college friends.

You know who you are, Ayeh, Ana, Tanya, Hannan, George, Mev, Gabe, Javi, Emma, all met each other and have stuck together and have helped each other during school, to pass tests together and to survive college together. Without you guys, I would have given up a long time ago, love you forever!

16. 1307

All the boys in that house are the best (especially you, John, thanks for being the best). LOL not much to say but thanks for always being a fun time. Love yall.

17. Music

I am so thankful for music, ever since I was little it has played an important role in my life and it’s a way to escape the world while being present and a way to express yourself through words, I love it.

18. Acai Bowls

Acai bowls are the best. If you haven’t had one maybe that should be on your bucket list. One of my favorite meals and, shout out to Sun Life in Malibu for always being a great time and having the best Acai ever.

19. Health

Although I have a very bad immune system I am very thankful to be able to live my everyday life without complications and to have a great vision to see the beautiful world and for being able to hear and just live life to the fullest!

20. Family

The people that share the same blood as you, the only people you will have left when one day your parents won't be there. Thanks for being alive.

21. Birthday Candles and Cake

I on July 2 will have been through 21 birthday cakes and so many candles. I am thankful to have been able to make almost 21 birthday wishes and having some come true while I’m waiting for others to one day happen. One of my favorite cakes ever was when I turned 8, my parents surprised me with a Madagascar cake at the Kalahari and it was one of the best days in my life, love you mom and dad forever.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
