When we think about all the things that happened in 2016, it seemed a lot more like the end of the end of the world then 2015 had. So what does this mean for us? We have experienced events that have both strengthened us as individuals and strengthened us as a group. From the deaths of our beloved actors and singers to the massive devastation that is happening across the globe, near a land many of us hold dear. Politics, in addition, is changing, it is no longer a survival of the fittest, it is now a lottery. Our world is a gamble and it seems everything is being left up to chance. Every event defies logic and leaves us wondering what will happen next.
2017 just started and we already see this trend continuing. In the first week there was a shooting at the Ft. Lauderdale Airport and terrorist attack in Israel. In such a short time we see 2016 repeating itself and we are already running to Facebook to find understanding and motivation to continue our blind walk into the new year. The truth is we are facing a world of increasing violence, increasing instability, and increasing questionable events. They are out of our control but the way we react to them is completely within our control.
What can we do to change 2017? How can we make this year better then any other year? Honestly, we can’t because it is already here. We can, however, make a better 2018 and 2019. We have the power to learn from our mistakes and share with the next generation what we have learned. As violence grows so does our passion for maintaining the world we want to live in. There will always be malicious threats from foreign governments, but there will also be a wall of good pushing back that evil.
We have the chance to create a future entirely for ourselves. A world that can breath the fresh air of decreased pollution or a land of decreased gun violence. We just need to find the solution by first identifying the main problem. Edison attempted hundreds of experiments before he was successful, each time learning from his mistakes. We need to use this example and find a better tomorrow.
